Cong negates CM claim of 24-hr power supply to farmers

Raipur, August 30, 2012

Disproving Chief Minister Raman Singh’s recent statement that farmers are getting uninterrupted power supply for irrigation, Congress on Thursday said neither the state government did it in the past not doing it presently.
“Contrarily, condition in rural areas is pathetic. Farming affects due to frequent power cuts. The power infrastructures in rural pockets are rarely being maintained. The power companies never take initiative to replace old and expired transformers. Hence, line loss further affects irrigation works,” said Congress general secretary Ramesh Warlyani and spokesperson Mahendra Chhabda.
“The CM, instead of giving misleading statements, should rather take effective steps to improve farmers’ conditions by addressing their problems,” they demanded.
“The CM should also fulfill his party’s promise to give Rs 270 paddy bonus and free electricity to the farmers,” they further demanded.
