138 surgeries in 4 hrs, Cong for sacking of Health Minister

Raipur, September 28, 2012

Congress on Friday demanded from government to sack Health Minister Amar Agrawal pointing that his department was playing with the health of women as had recently happened in Daundilohara (Balod) where 138 tubectomy operations were conducted in four hours by one doctor in a government health camp.

“First the uterus removal incident happened in government health camps and now its tubectomy case. The government is treating poor people as cattle. All the major incidents are happening in Agrawal’s department, hence he is responsible for all wrongdoings and must be sacked,” said Congress spokesperson Mahendra Chhabda.

He said despite clear instructions from Government of India that not more than 20 operations should be conducted in one day and the state government too fixing limit of surgeries up to 25 maximum in a day, the doctors seemed least bothered about health of the patients.

He said the doctor did 138 operations in four hours because the government had given target of 6000 tubectomy surgeries under its population control fortnight. “Certainly, along with the doctors, the government too is responsible for risking lives of patients in health camps,” he said.
