Alleging that the government departments were violating Right to Information (RTI) Act and harassing applicants seeking information under the Act, the Youth Congress (YC) submitted a memorandum to Chief Information Commissioner on Tuesday.
The YC’s Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari charged that the government departments were not complying with the rules under RTI Act. “The Act is supposed to benefit the common people but unfortunately the corrupt ones are taking advantage of it,” he added.
“The government has already amended some of the sections of RTI Act. When the applicants seek to fetch information pertaining to specific issues, they are being pressurised to refrain from doing so. Even, relevant departments deliberately stall the process of handing over the sough information,” he said.
“The departments provide vague and misleading information to the applicants. They do not mention serial number of the application submitted by the applicants. It seems the government departments neither respect not fear the State Information Commission,” he said.
“The hearing of the appeal too is not being conducted according to the norm. The appellate officials rather confirm the vague information provided by the departments while haring the appeals by the applicants. In many cases, the applicant does not get notice about the time of hearing and the appellate official usually close such matters by marking that the appellant was absent,” he said.
While submitting memorandum, the YC members who accompanied Tiwari were Sushil Agrawal, Indrajeet Singh, Sunny Agrawal, Samir Chouhan, Rubal Mehta, Sandeep Yadu, Shiv Shrivastava, Nandu Sahu, Bijju Banjare, Pawan Singh, Saket Vaidya, Prashant Pareda, Vikky Wadhwani, Amit Kesharwani, Jatin Taank, etc.
