Congress has charged that industrialists were ruling the state under BJP regime and the government was unable to bind them under rules and regulations as it had completely lost control over them. The charges were made by Congress legislator Mohammad Akbar through his call attention notice at Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday.
Citing example of Siltara Industrial Area Akbar alleged that Sarda Energy Limited was drawing water from Mandhar branch canal number 17 by occupying about one kilometre of the canal under its campus by constructing boundary wall over it. He charged that it happened due to nexus between the company and the officials of Water Resources department (WRD) despite strong protest of the local villagers.
He said due to boundary wall the WRD officials would not be able to do regular inspection of that particular part of the canal. He demanded from the minister to quickly ask Sarda Energy Limited to remove the boundary wall and take stern action against guilty officials.
The WRD Minister Ramvichar Netam, however, denied the charges of Akbar and said the government had full control over the industrialists and water was being allocated to them according to rules.
He further informed that the WRD diverted Mandhar branch canal number 17 from RD 1400 to 2400 meters on application of Sarda Energy Limited during 2006 to 2008 when the company deposited Rs 166.04 lakh to the department.
Netam claimed that the old and new diverted canals were under department’s possession and Sarda Energy Limited had been warned not to do construction over canal.
He further claimed that the farmers were getting ample irrigation water from canal number 17 every year and informed that about 5578.51 hectare land had been irrigated in 2011.
