Cong grills govt on Durg eye camp incident

Raipur, April 03, 2012

Alleging that the government hospitals lacked treatment facilities despite government spending crores in health sector and consequently the incidents like Durg eye camp incident recur, Congress on Tuesday attacked the ruling party in Vidhan Sabha for not developing even single hospital with all modern facilities in past nine years.
The opposition raised the issue of Durg eye camp incident after Question Hour. Health Minister Amar Agrawal admitted that the eyes of eight patients were found infected after they underwent operation in the eye camp organised by Durg district hospital under National Blindness Control Programme on March 28, 2012.
He informed the House that all the eight patients were being treated in MGM hospital and Joint secretary (Health) Dr SS Sahni had been entrusted the responsibility of probing into the entire matter.
Congress MLA said that the incidents of patients losing their eyesight were unfortunate. “Now, it was turn of Durg district hospital. The government should clarify whether the operation theatre was infected or expired medicines were used during surgery,” he said.
Congress legislator Mohammad Akbar said first about 48 patients lost their eyesight in Balod eye camp and then now similar incident occurred in Durg.
