Party demands Rs 5 lakh compensation each for infected patients

In wake of Durg eye camp incident, the Congress constituted a six-member committee to inquire the matter.
According to information, the panel comprising of DCC Durg (Rural) president Ghanaram Sahu, DCC Durg (Urban) president RN Verma, PCC secretaries - Deepak Dubey, Siju Anthony, Mahesh Jaiswal and Rauf Quraishi took stock of the situation at Durg district hospital.
The panel found that eight patients were admitted in the hospital on March 27, 2012 and their operations were conducted on the following day. On March 29, all the patients were discharged but were recalled on March 30 when the hospital administration learnt about infection in their eyes. On the same day the patients were referred to Ambedkar hospital and MGM hospital. The panel has submitted this prima facie report to the PCC president Nandkumar Patel.
Terming negligence on part of the doctors who conducted operation, the Congress has demanded Rs five lakh compensation for the infected patients besides their treatment in best hospital of the country.
The party further sought sacking of the Health Minister and stern action against the guilty doctors and supporting staff to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The Congress also demanded ban on drug supplying company whose medicines were used during surgery. The party further asked the government to quickly construct new operation theatre in Durg district hospital.
