ABVP nationwide dharna against PC on Jan 18

Will demand his dismissal, arrest and co-accusation in 2G spectrum scam from President Pratibha Patil

Raipur, January 16, 2012

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will stage nationwide dharna against Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on January 18 and demand his dismissal, arrest and co-accusation from President Pratibha Patil in the much talked 2G spectrum scam. The dharna will be staged at 2000 places including all district headquarters of ABVP.
The decision to demonstrate against Chidambaram was taken during the ABVP’s recently concluded 57th national conference in which the participants formed opinion that Chidambaram, who earlier held Union Finance Ministry, played active role in 2G scam, which incurred loss of Rs 1.72 lakh crore to the country, informed ABVP’s state secretary Raju Mahant on Monday.
He said the participants also questioned the role of Prime Minister into the entire scam. “On the basis of documental evidences, it is evident that this scam took place with cooperation of Chidambaram. There was three months gap between allotment and actual distribution of spectrum, but Chidambaram did not try to stop this,” he said.
Alleging that Chidambaram was actively involved in the 2G scam, the ABVP’s national general secretary Umesh Dutt has demanded from President Pratibha to immediately remove him from his post apprehending that the inquiry into the entire matter would not be transparent as he could affect it using his influence.
“The ABVP believes that in 2G scam, Chidambaram is equally guilty as main culprit A Raja. Hence CBI should immediately make him co-accused and send him behind the bars,” said Mahant.
Mahant informed that over 25 lakh students raised their voice against corruption throughout 2011 under the auspices of ABVP and Youth Against Corruption (YAC).
“In the next step, we will intensify our agitations to uproot corrupt UPA government at Centre” Mahant said urging ABVP’s state workers to make the organisation’s January 18 dharna a big success.
The ABVP’s state office- bearers will lead the dharna programme in districts and then hand over memorandum to Collectors on the name of President Pratibha Patil.
