Govt’s anti-liquor drive only a deception: Cong

Raipur, January 20, 2012

The Congress has alleged that the government’s anti-liquor campaign was mere deception and it was rather making attempts to increase liquor sale.
“The government is simply wasting money in its anti-liquor drive, thanks to high revenue on liquor sale in the current financial year,” ridiculed PCC spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla on Friday.
He informed that the government generated revenue of Rs 1199.33 crore in the current fiscal till December 31, about 18.27 crore more than the revenue earned in the previous fiscal during the same period.
“Now, the government should stop making false claims about its anti-liquor drive. Even there has been marked rise in illegal liquor sale. The agents of influential liquor contractors are active in the every part of the state and they are selling illegal liquor under the nose of the government watchdogs,” Shukla said.
“It is an irony that while the government is discouraging liquor sale through messages in hoardings, the Commercial Tax Minister Amar Agrawal has expressed his annoyance over less consumption of liquor in tribal belts like Jashpur, Sarguja and Bastar,” said Shukla.
