Congress on Tuesday alleged that corruption prevailed in state’s Livestock
Development Board (LDB) as the livestock, being distributed to poor tribals to improve
their financial condition, had been proved to be low yielding.
“The Centre has started
this scheme and providing funds to the state government with an objective to uplift
landless tribals engaged in farming. But irregularities in LDB is a major
hurdle in the success of this scheme,” said PCC spokesperson Sushil Anand
Shukla.
He informed that the
LDB had recently distributed 20 goats to the tribals in village Sankara under
Chhura development block of Gariyaband district but they died because they were
old.
“We have received
similar complaints from other parts of the state as well. The corruption in LDB
has worsened the financial condition of the tribals and they have become
heavily indebted,” Shukla said.
He pointed that the
government neither does insurance of the livestock which are distributed to the
tribals nor compensate the beneficiaries on early death of animals.
He said the BJP had
also promised the tribals to provide jersey cow and a pair of ox in its
election manifesto but did the formality by distributing old cattle to a couple
of beneficiaries. “If the government wants upliftment of the tribals then it
should fulfill its promise and also ensure that the beneficiaries get hi breed
livestock under the Central scheme from LDB,” Shukla said.
