CM following Modi footsteps to fight next VS polls: Cong

Raipur, January 21, 2012
Sharply reacting over reports of increased security arrangements at the place where Ramvilas Vedanti is delivering discourses in Durg, the Congress has said that Chief Minister Raman Singh was following Gujarat CM Narendra Modi’s footsteps to fight next Assembly elections in 2013. “This is strange. Vedanti is absconding in state police record. There has been case registered against him, still the government is providing him protection. This is autocratic and sheer deliberation to disturb peace and tranquility of the state,” said PCC’s chief spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi on Saturday.
“Scared of its rapidly declining popularity in the state the BJP government is using Vedanti as a tool through which want to gain political mileage for next elections,” Trivedi added.
Notably, Vedanti is a three-time MP from BJP and is alleged to have remarked against Congress head Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and minority communities at Rajim kumbh on March 3, 2008.
On March 4, 2008, the Congress members led by former PCC president Charandas Mahant and former leader of the opposition Mahendra Karma submitted a memorandum to the then Governor ESL Narasimhan demanding Vedanti’s arrest.
“When the Governor asked the government to take action against the so-called saint, it first consulted the advocate-general and then directed Rajim police to register a criminal case against him under section 153(A) and 504 of IPC. However, Vedanti was neither held at that time nor at present. The Congress demands from the government to stop protecting Vedanti and take apt against him quickly,” Trivedi said.
