Cong asks BJP to fulfill its promise made to farmers

Raipur, January 11, 2011

The Congress has one again asked the ruling BJP to fulfill its promise made to the farmers during previous Assembly elections. “The BJP is playing filthy politics by not fulfilling its promise of Rs 270 paddy bonus and free electricity for irrigation pumps up to 5 HP to the farmers. Instead, its leaders are giving objectionable statements on suicidal cases of farmers,” said PCC spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla on Wednesday.
“In 2009 and 2010, about 12405 people committed suicide in Chhattisgarh. The government should clarify the number of farmers who killed themselves during this period,” he said.
He further ridiculed the ruling party for claiming to have started paddy procurement in the state. “It rather started during Congress regime in the state,” he said.
