BJP tarnishing Patel’s image: Cong

Raipur, January 19, 2012

The Congress on Thursday came out heavily against BJPians for giving back-to-back statements on Nandeli paddy procurement issue and alleged that the ruling party was rather tarnishing PCC president Nandkumar Patel’s image.
“BJP is doing Patel’s negative publicity. This shows its frustration as the Congress has exposed its corrupt face before public. Patel’s political life has been uncontroversial and transparent. If BJP thinks that Patel’s kin is involved in corruption then it should ask the government to conduct transparent inquiry into the matter,” said PCC’s chief spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi.
Notably, the BJP is alleging that Patel’s nephew Rajesh had embezzled Rs 18 lakh while working as a manager in Nandeli (Raigarh) cooperative society. The Congress, on the other hand, says that the BJP wants to divert public attention from its corrupt activities and hence it is targeting Patel and his relatives baselessly.
“Congress is not trying to protect Rajesh. If he has really done something wrong then the BJP should show the evidence,” said Trivedi and asked the ruling party to stop politicising the matter and conduct fair probe into it.
He said that the BJPians were hiding the facts regarding paddy procurement in Raigarh district. “As against other cooperative societies in the district, Nandeli is the only society which managed to keep paddy safe from the recent unseasonal rains. Even the labourers in this society get higher wage than those of others,” Trivedi claimed.
