The officials, who are on verge of retirement in next couple of years, have demanded service extension from the state administration. These officials who belong to State Administrative Services (SAS) have put their demand before Chief Secretary P Joy Oommen and had urged either to give them service extension or contract appointment. Oommen has assured the officials to seriously consider their demand.
According to information, over 300 posts of deputy collector has been approved for SAS officials. In next three years, one quarter of deputy and additional collectors, i.e. more than 100 would get retired.
While 23 SAS officials will retire in 2012, about 20 will complete their service term in 2013. Among the remaining officials, some will be promoted to IAS. This year, 15 SAS officials are likely to be promoted to IAS. In this condition, several posts of deputy collectors would remain vacant as the number of newly inducted SAS officials amid 2088 to 2011 too is not sufficient.
The government will face major problem in smooth operation of administrative works in the absence of senior and experienced officials.
Anticipating that the government would require their service even after retirement, the SAS officials had held talks with the state administration about their job extension and contract appointment a couple of times in the past. They had also apprised Chief Minister Raman Singh about their demand.
