YC members going to gherao Forest Minister arrested

Raipur, January 06, 2012

About 60 members of Youth Congress (YC) were detained and released on Friday while they were advancing to gherao Forest Minister Vikram Usendi with their demand to lift wrongly registered non-bailable case against their fellow members from Kawardha districts recently. The state YC president Uttam Vasudev termed the police action as deliberate and intended to harass Congress and its frontal organisations.
“The Forest department had recently victimised eight baiga families pertaining to tiger killing incident merely on suspicion. However, when the police disclosed that the actual culprits were from Forest department, the Kawardha YC members reached the local Forest officer and sought suspension of guilty staffers and justice to the innocent baiga families. But the police held our members on the spot and filed non-bailable case against them,” Vasudev elaborated.
“The police did not even spare us and took repressive action against us when we tried to gherao Forest Minister,” said Vasudev.
The YC members who accompanied Vasudev were – state vice president Deepak Mishra, Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari, state general secretaries – Pappu Baghel, Asif  Memon, Sandeep Sahu, Abhishek Modi along with Makhan Tamrakar, Anwar Khan, Indrajeet Singh, Sushil Agrawal, etc.
