Once again, Congress will target government on farmers’ issue through its dharna at Abhanpur on Tuesday. In the day-long dharna, the party will raise series of suicidal cases of farmers in different parts of the state and ask the government to give them relief by waiving their loans and providing compensation packages against their damaged crops.
This will be the second dharna of the party in favour of farmers in this month as the first was organised in Kharsiya on January 1. The dharna will be attended by all the senior party leaders including PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.
The party decided to stage dharna in Abhanpur because it wanted to prominently raise the suicidal incidents of two farmers of the region which is legislative constituency of Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu.
Notably, former PCC president Dhanendra Sahu has demanded Rs ten lakh compensation for the family members of farmers who have killed themselves.
The party feels that the farmers are killing themselves because they are unable to clear their debts in wake of less crop production which happened either because of flood, drought or use of duplicate fertilisers and pesticides without knowledge.
The party has clearly hinted that besides corruption, it would persistently grill the government on farmers’ aggravating condition in the state throughout this year.
