Former Chief Minister
and senior Congress legislator Ajit Jogi on Saturday said that Chhattisgarh had
reached to new heights in sports arena with its back-to-back feats in different
games at national level.
Congratulating the
state’s baseball team for lifting the winner’s cup of 57th National School
Games by beating Delhi and Chhattisgarh’s cricket team for setting up rare
record, i.e. making 468 runs in just 50 overs during Under-19 Associate trophy
Cricket Tournament, Jogi said the players with their hard work had taken the
state on top in the country.
He said the performance
of state’s boys’ and girls’ teams in 60th Senior National Volleyball
Championship was also commendable. Notably, the championship was held just recently
at Raipur.
He alleged that despite
allocation of huge funds by Centre for infrastructure and development of sports
activities in rural pockets under Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA)
the government was non-serious and is spending the money in urban areas.
“The government has completely
failed to provide radical facilities to the players. The state has amply
talented players in archery, volleyball, hockey, cricket, basketball, etc but
the government is not taking initiative to hone their skills,” Jogi charged.
