Raipur, January 10, 2012

About fifty members of NSUI were held by police on Tuesday when they gheraoed Public Service Commission (PSC) and shouted slogans against it. The demonstrators were demanding from the Commission to increase the maximum age limit to appear in the exams conducted by it from 35 years to 37 years.
Earlier, large number of NSUI members led by the organisation’s former state president Sanjeev Shukla reached PSC office in the form of a rally from senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi’s residence.
Shukla informed that the NSUI had submitted several memorandums in the recent past to the PSC chairman Pradeep Joshi for increase in the maximum age limit but no action was taken.
“The maximum age limit was 37 years earlier but the Commission reduced it to 35 years for no reason. This will affect about 40000 candidates,” he said.
He warned of launching aggressive protest movement against Commission if it would not take any positive decision in favour of students.
Strongly opposing the arrest of the agitators, the president of Youth Congress Raipur Lok Sabha Vinod Tiwari and NSUI state vice president Subodh Haritwal jointly advised the government to tighten noose on untrammeled Commission officials who were playing with the future of the students by not increasing maximum age limit.
Besides Shukla, the demonstrators who got arrested were Dr Hina Lahre, Pradeep Sahu, Gulzeb Ahmed, Abhinay Ravte, Rahul Lahre, Shahid Shah, Shahbaz Hussein, Asif, Ravi Sen, Nadeem Salat, etc.
