Flaying the government
for not making adequate arrangements to protect paddy from rains, Congress on
Monday asked it to extend the paddy procurement date and to increase
permissible moisture content percentage.
The PCC president
Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey alleged that the government did
not take any proactive measure to protect paddy despite prior warning from the
meteorological department about unseasonal rains. “This again proves that the
government is anti-farmer,” they said.
They said large amount
of paddy dampened due to scarce facility of sheds in the procurement centres.
“Similar is the
condition of the godowns which too lack sufficient number of sheds to stock
paddy. This has resulted in dampening of paddy of the farmers who were waiting
for their turn outside procurement centres to sell their paddy as well as those
who were about to carry their paddy from fields to societies,” they said.
The duo demanded from
the government to buy paddy of all the farmers who paddy got dampened in the
recent rains. “Since, the rains have increased moisture content in the paddy,
the government should also direct the societies to increase percentage of the
permissible moisture so that farmers may not incur loss,” they said.
