RSU forms 16 committees for convocation

To organise its 17th convocation ceremony successfully, Pt Ravishankar Shukla University has constituted 16 committees. The convocation ceremony will be organised on January 24, 2011. The committee was formed in a meeting chaired by vice chancellor Professor SK Pandey, varsity registrar KK Chandrakar and RSU teaching staff. There will be one coordination committee under which the remaining 15 panels would function. The coordination committee will have 11 members and would be headed by Professor Omprakash Verma, HoD Regional studies and Research.
“The varsity administration usually delegates job responsibilities to the faculty members by constituting committees to avoid any conflict in arrangements,” said Professor Verma.
With slightly over a month left for convocation, all the committees have been asked to begin their work at war footing. The coordination committee would function as a monitoring body and would conduct first review meeting of all the panels in next fifteen days. For this, the panel heads have been directed to prepare daily reports of their team’s work and to submit the collective report during the review meeting.
The heads of 15 committees have further delegated job responsibilities to their respective team members and have set deadline for each work.
The name of remaining 15 committees and their heads are – seating arrangement – Professor BG Singh, gown and gold medal distribution – Professor AK Pandey, convocation invitation distribution – Professor SP Meghani, finance – SN Thakur (finance controller), water, power and sanitation arrangement – Professor GL Patel, radio, video, TV and live telecast arrangement – Professor Rakesh Agrawal, arrangement at stage for degree and gold medal distribution– Professor SK Jadhav, high tea arrangement – Professor JP Khan, announcement – Professor Promila Singh, academic council - Professor BK Sharma, citation and publication – Professor AK Pati, VIP seating arrangement – Professor KS Patel, students’ arrangement – Professor Gaurishankar, parking arrangement – Professor CD Agashe, stage decoration – Professor Mitashi Mitra, guest stay arrangement – Professor Shailendra Saraf and gold medal, degree and merit certificate verification– Professor Arvind Agrawal.


State’s 3 districts picked for computerisation of PDS ops

The Union government has approved the state’s three districts for implementation of the scheme of computerisation of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) operations on pilot basis. Besides, three districts each of Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Delhi have also been shortlisted for the purpose. The information was given by Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution KV Thomas in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Aiming to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the TPDS, the Centre has approved the implementation of the scheme of computerisation of TPDS operations in a phased manner, he said. The districts of Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Delhi have been selected for the first phase, he said.
The scheme will concentrate on key functional areas like allocation, off take reporting, storage, movement, finance, licensing & regulation and grievance redressal.
In this regard, the Union government has already issued directives to the government of selected states including Chhattisgarh to streamline functioning of TPDS by enforcing provisions of PDS (Control) Order, 2001.
The Centre has also issued instructions state government to strengthen functioning of TPDS by improving monitoring mechanism and vigilance, increased transparency in the functioning of TPDS, use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and improving the efficiency of Fair Price Shop (FPS) operations.
The TPDS is jointly operated by the Centre and the state governments. The Union government is responsible for procurement, allocation and transportation of foodgrains up to the designated depots of the Food Corporation of India FCI).
The operational responsibilities for allocation of foodgrains within the states, identification of eligible Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, issuance of ration cards to them and supervision of FPSs is dealt by the state governments.
The minister further informed that the complaints received by the Centre in connection to malpractices in TPDS, including leakage and diversion of foodgrains are directly forwarded to the concerned state governments for inquiry and necessary action.


Raw materials routed from main producers to SSIs

To promote the micro and small enterprises, the Union government has a scheme for routing allocation of iron and steel materials from main producers to the micro and small enterprises, i.e. small scale industries (SSIs) across the country including Chhattisgarh. This is being done through the State Small Scale Industry Corporations and National Small Industries Corporation. This information was given by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Dinsha Patel in a written reply to a question of Gopal Vyas in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Vyas asked whether the small scale industries in Chhattisgarh were not getting regular supply of iron, steel and coal in adequate quantity despite the fact that the state had iron and steel public sector undertakings and huge coal reserves. He further sought from the minister to inform about the steps taken by the Centre to help the small scale industries in this regard?
The minister replied that under the Centre’s coal distribution policy, supply of coal to the consumers in small and medium sector is available through the nodal agencies, nominated by the state government. The raw materials are available at market determined prices, he added.


RMC, CAJJCS pay tribute to martyr Veer Narayan Singh

The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Chhattisgarh Anusoochit Jati Janjati Chatr Sangthan (CAJJCS) paid floral tribute to the martyr Veer Narayan Singh on the occasion of his death anniversary on December 10, 2010. The RMC’s Culture department had organised the tribute programme in front of Veer Narayan Singh’s statue near Raj Bhawan at 10 am during which Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari and others were present. The CAJJS observed the death anniversary of martyr Veer Narayan Singh by taking out a rally from Kalibadi chowk to his statue near Raj Bhawan via Jaistambh chowk.



Cong demands from govt to cancel CMO selection exam

The Congress on Friday demanded from the state government to cancel the Chief Municipal officer (CMO) selection examination organised by Public Service Commissioner (PSC) on December 12, 2010. “The advertisement for this examination was full of mistakes owing to which several eligible candidates could not fill the application form apprehending rejection,” said PCC president Dhanendra Sahu.
In this connection, the Congress has also written latter to the Governor Shekhar Dutt, Chief Minister Raman Singh as well as the PSC chairman BL Thakur and secretary Xavier Tigga.
“One of the major mistakes in the advertisement is regarding disabled candidates. There is no mention of relaxation of 10 year for disabled. The educated unemployed youths of the state are severely frustrated due to mistakes in the advertisement,” Sahu said adding that even the PSC secretary had conceded the fault.
“In this regard, a plea was filed to the state High Court that directed the commission not to announce the CMO exam result,” said Sahu.
“The PSC is entangled in controversies for the past seven years and results of several examinations including that of assistant professors have still not been announced by the commission. When several cases pertaining to results of PSC conducted exams are pending with the court, how can the commission organise another exam without correcting the mistakes,” Sahu asked.
The PSC published the advertisement for CMO exams on May 5, 2010 and the last date to submit the application forms was June 11, 2010. The forms were sold through different post offices till June 10.  Later, when the political parties mounted pressure on the commission to extend the last dates to obtain and submit the forms, the PSC announced that forms would be sold till June 26 and submitted till June 28.
The commission had hinted that the CMO exam would be conducted in August 2010 but it started sending admit cards to the candidates from November end.


RMC seals 8 more illegal mobile towers

Continuing its action against the illegal mobile towers in the capital, the municipal corporation on Friday sealed eight more such structures in zone 1 and 6. The RMC commenced its drive against illegal mobile towers on December 9, 2010 and sealed 35 structures erected in different zones. On Friday, the team led by zone 1 commissioner BR Agrawal sealed three towers in Bhanpuri. Similarly, the zone 6 commissioner Harendra Kumar Sahu and his team sealed five towers in Santoshi Nagar and Laxmi Nagar.


Zone commissioners get more power

Finally the civic administration has given more power to the zone commissioners to carry out development works in their areas. Under section 69(4) of Municipal Act 1956, the RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary on Friday increased the contingency expenditure limit from Rs 10000 per day to Rs 50000 and Rs two lakh per month to Rs five lakh. The payment above Rs 500 would be done through account payee cheque.


1200 sq ft encroachment removed

The RMC on Friday removed a 1200 sq ft encroachment near Ring Road No 1 at Bhathagaon. The encroacher had also leveled the adjacent nullah near the empty 1200 sq ft land and had started raising a small religious structure on the front portion of the land. In the rear side, he was constructing a hotel and private parking space, informed zone 6 commissioner Harendra Kumar Sahu.


Compensate rain-affected farmers: Congress

In wake of unseasonal rains that damaged the crops, the Congress on Friday demanded from the state government to compensate the farmers who had incurred loss. The PCC president Dhanendra Sahu said the government should promptly announce compensation per acre for such farmers.
