RMC Commissioner asks contractors to repair new tarred roads

Macadamised road in Telebandha will be stubbed and tarred again

Bans tarring works during rains

Raipur, October 22, 2010

After Central Chronicle published the report that the eight municipal road macadamisation works being carried out in the city at an estimated cost of Rs 3.73 crore were substandard and the roads had started peeling off, the RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary quickly came into action and gave ultimatum to the contractors on Friday to repair all the newly tarred roads that have completely deteriorated. His instruction came after he inspected all the eight roads along with the officials. He has sternly asked the officials to ensure quality should be maintained during tarring works.
During his inspection, he was severely infuriated by the abject condition of tarring done at Gaurav Path in Telebandha that has completely been peeled off. He promptly directed the contractor to stub the complete stretch of the road and macadamise it again.
Considering that the newly macadamised roads get wash away during rains, he has banned tarring works during bad weather conditions and warned of stern action against those officials and contractors who would not follow the instruction.
Choudhary has also directed the officials to ensure that the macadamisation of 20 more roads to be commenced at the cost of Rs 8 crore should also be carried out according to the prescribed norms.
Notably, Central Chronicle in its report – ‘Tarring: Roads 8, cost Rs 3.73 cr, but no guarantee’ published on October 19, 2010 had pointed how corruption prevailed in the RMC and huge funds sanctioned for road macadamisation works were sparsely used for the actual projects and rather shared by the contractors and the officials.

India needs farmer-oriented agriculture policy: BJP

Raipur, October 22, 2010

The country desperately needs farmer-oriented agriculture policy, not production-oriented and only then this sector would survive. BJP’s Kisan Morcha president OP Dhankad emphasised on change its agriculture policy while interacting with the media persons after the meeting of Agriculture and Food & Civil Supplies Ministers from BJP-ruled states concluded New Circuit House on Friday.
“In the meeting, we have come up with some specific suggestions and recommendations on 19 major points including farm sector, condition of farmers and food security,” he said.
“We can only improve the financial status of the farmers and increase their income when we would frame policies considering their requisites. If we would delay in changing existing policy, the agriculture as a profession would fail through which the majority of the country’s population is linked,” said Dhankad.
“If the Union government can fix minimum income slab for labourers, why cannot it fix similar slab for the farmers?” he asked.
“The party is also upset with the minimal hike in the MSP of Rabi crops, i.e. Rs 20 and we would demand from the Centre increase it in the winter session of the Parliament. We will also demand bonus should be distributed to the farmers while paddy procurement,” he said.
On rotting foodgrains in the different parts of the country, he said the BJP would indeed raise this burning issue in the Parliament during winter session and demand to pass the Food Security Bill to ensure that the country may no record anymore starvation deaths.
Citing example of Chhattisgarh’s 3 percent interest charge on farm loans, Dhankad said the party would ask the Centre to slash the farm loan rates and ensure they should not exceed 4 percent.
