To deal terrorism and naxalism that are continuously posing threat to the nation’s internal security, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will convene a meeting of chief ministers at New Delhi on February 1, 2011. Chief Minister Raman Singh will leave for the national capital to attend the daylong meeting on January 31.
The CM will demand more funds from the Centre to counter naxalism. On February 2, the CM will meet Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge and Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Independent Charge) Prof. KV Thomas.
In his last meeting, the CM had demanded Rs 272 crore from Ahluwalia for water and sanitation projects for Naya Raipur, but the Centre did not release the fund because the maximum limit of such grants fixed by the Planning Commission was much less.
