Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary on Thursday suspended zone 5 health officer Dr Imam Baksh, the ward mate Chabilal Sahu and five sanitary workers for not discharging their duty responsibly. The duo gave orders for the suspension of these seven civic staffers while inspecting sanitary works from Lakhe Nagar chowk to Pt Ravishankar Shukla University and when the found that cleaning standards had been completely neglected in the given stretch. The suspended cleaning workers are – Bhumika, Kaushalya, Vanvaso, Indu and Vishakha.

In wake of the verdict of Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Ayodhya issue on Thursday, Chief Minister Raman Singh said that the state government would abide by the decision and appeals to the citizens to maintain peace and harmony. “The people of Chhattisgarh have maintained amicable environment before and after the verdict and I hope that the sense of unity consolidate and sustain across the state and country,” said Singh while taking to the media persons at his residence on Thursday evening.
“However, as a preventive measure, the security cordon would not be lifted for next couple of days,” he said adding that a directive in this regard had been issued to all the district administrations.
Singh further appealed from the citizens to avoid being carried away by any provocative remarks and rumours.
“We had held peace committee meeting with all communities before the verdict and had urged them to help the government in maintain peace and harmony in the state prior and post the decision,” he said.
When asked his elaborated comment on the verdict, Singh said it would be premature to utter anything on it without going through the details that are contained in over 8000 pages. Still, he said, the citizens should avoid taking the verdict as victory or defeat, but must rather follow it as a decision of the judiciary.
When asked about the government’s future course of action to safely bring the four abducted cops from the custody of naxals, Singh said discussions with the Maoists were in progress at various levels from state to Centre and hoped that soon some positive result would come from it. He also thanked media for taking initiative and fetching information that the abducted cops were safe.
When asked about former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi’s remarks on BJP-led state government that its days were numbered and Congress needed only two seats to come into power during the campaigning of Bhatgaon legislative area’s by-poll, Singh denied any such chances and quipped – ‘let Jogi have a daydream’.
Asked about Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily’s assurance that the Centre would certainly consider the proposal of Chhattisgarh government pertaining to opening of High Court bench in Raipur, Singh said - “We would soon discuss on this matter and send a proposal to the Centre for HC bench in Raipur and Jagdalpur.”
