Cong objects allocation of bungalow to RMC Speaker

Provision of car to leader of BJP corporators, Mayor demands govt cars for MiC members

Raipur, October 07, 2010

Congress corporators have strongly objected on the allocation of bungalow to civic Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava and provision of government car to the leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari. Recently, the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members have expressed their annoyance over the issue to the RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary and now the Congress corporators are linking the provisions to Shrivastava and Tiwari as moves to increase their interference in the municipal works by directly placing them peer to the Mayor.
Defending Shrivastava and Tiwari, the BJP corporators say that if the civic administration has decided to give facilities to the duo then it would have done it according to the norms and considering their entitlement. Contrarily, the Mayor has sniffed conspiracy and feels that the unwarranted benefits to the Speaker and leader of BJP corporators are being given with an objective to trespass her domain.
“If Tiwari can get government car, why the MiC members have been kept deprived of such provisions?” she asks.
This is the first time that the RMC Speaker and the leader of Opposition are getting facility of bungalow and car respectively. In fact, even the former Mayors like Tarun Chaterjee and late Balbeer Juneja did not get bungalow during their tenures. Rather, the new cult commenced with the allocation of bungalow to the previous Mayor Sunil Soni near Nalghar chowk. Now, existing Mayor Nayak has been allocated the same bungalow.
Another bungalow near the Nalghar chowk has been allocated to the Speaker Shrivastava, although none of the former Speakers including Gajraj Pagaria, Sunil Soni, Prafulla Vishwakarma and Ratan Daga got similar provisions during their terms.
Similarly, provision of car to Tiwari is said to be the new tradition in the municipal corporation as none of the previous leaders of the Oppositions including Lokesh Kawadia, Prabhakar Rao Ambilkar, Kuldeep Singh Juneja and Lakhwant Singh Gill were given this facility.

Imbroglio over PCC prez selection

Raipur, October 07, 2010

State Congress is in shambles again in the wake of Bhatgaon by-poll defeat. Blamegame has started within the party and the upshots of by-election lurch are likely to shatter dream of many PCC president candidates.
The Bhatgaon by-poll debacle has indeed stupefied the AICC which has always kept an analytical eye on the aspiring candidates for PCC president after the party failed to cash in on Sonia’s magic in the previous assembly and general elections in the state.
Although, it reached on verge of making a mindset for appropriate choice on the basis of its assessments a number of times in the past, yet it kept on deferring its decision.
Now, in the backdrop of Bhatgaon shocker, the bewildered AICC first wants to ruminate over the causes of party’s steep decline in Chhattisgarh so that it could hand over the baton to the right candidate who could save the party from embarrassments in next polls.
The state’s senior party leaders have already conveyed their likes and dislikes (regarding aspirants) to the High Command. But, the recommendation of state chief returning officer Viplove Thakur would decide the fate of contenders as she is said to have suggested some names claiming that they have capability to manage the party affairs despite polarisation of leaders from several camps.
Among aspirants, Mohammad Akbar has emerged as strong minority candidate who has established rapport with all the camps. He wants to convince the AICC supremo that Congress can mobilise large Muslim votes in the state if he gets an opportunity as PCC chief.
Nandkumar Patel was earlier projected as Ajit Jogi’s candidate, but soon his aides publicised that he is no longer attached with any camp and that he is the apt leader to hold the responsibility.
Now, whether it is a Jogi’s ploy or Patel’s wisdom, any surmise would be premature. Although, Jogi has projected his spouse Dr Renu for the coveted post, Patel’s propinquity with him cannot be overlooked.
The existing PCC chief Dhanendra Sahu and working president Satyanarayan Sharma too are in the fray. While Sahu has failed to impress AICC for want of leadership skills, High Command considers Sharma’s reputation no less than a frustrated party splitter!
Another PCC working president Charandas Mahant, who is eying berth in Union Cabinet, does not want to hold the state unit’s reins. However, his opponents wish to downsize his stature at Centre so as to qualify him in smaller geographical area. Still, Mahant’s name is right on the top among the contenders for PCC chief.
There are few more candidates like Bhupesh Baghel, Rampukar Singh and others who have their own set of reasons to claim party’s responsibility.
The reports are rife that the AICC will announce new PCC chief sometime after Diwali ahead of Sanjari-Balod legislative assembly by-election, but the chances are less. Already, leader of Opposition in state assembly Ravindra Chobey’s name has been flashed as main poll manager for Sanjari-Balod and hence, the role of PCC president, old or new, will hold little significance. Rather, the AICC would prefer to take decision after Sanjari-Balod results.
