NSUI forcibly opens Mova overbridge for public

Before CM’s formal public dedication programme

Raipur, January 13, 2011

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday opened the Mova overbridge for commuters forcibly just two days ahead of Chief Minister Raman Singh’s scheduled programme to formally dedicate the flyover to the public.
To open the overbridge, the NSUI workers requested one senior citizen Premlata Sahu from Mova to dedicate it to public.
“Why people should wait for any formality by the state government when the overbridge is ready for over a month? The objective of constructing this overbridge was to rid commuters from frequent traffic jams at level crossing. If the construction of the flyover was completed way before then it should have opened for public immediately,” said the NSUI state president Sanjeev Shukla.
“We also demand from the state government to file criminal case against the Public Works Department (PWD) for obstructing the traffic movement on the overbridge deliberately as the structure has been raised on the main road and belongs to the state government,” he said.
On the occasion, Subodh Haritwal, Pradeep Sahu, Vidhi Namdev, Banti Bagh, Rahul Tiwari and other NSUI workers were present.

BJP corporators gherao civic Commissioner

Demands to roll back decision to impose tax on empty plots

Raipur, January 13, 2011

The BJP corporators on Friday gheraoed the civic Commissioner OM Prakash Choudhary and demanded from him to roll back the decision to impose property tax on empty plots. In this connection, the BJP corporators led by their leader Subhash Tiwari also submitted a memorandum to Choudhary.
Tiwari said people were afraid by RMC’s sudden decision to recover tax from empty plot owners. “A number of people who own empty plots in the capital belong to middle class. While some have purchased the plots, many have inherited from their ancestors. They have not done construction in their plots because they are financially weak. Now, if Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak will say that these people would forcibly recover tax from these people then it would be sheer injustice to them,” said Tiwari.
“It is also surprising that the RMC wants to impose tax on those plots that are submerged either in overflowing nullah water or rain water. How can the impose tax on those lands around which there is no basic civic facility?” Tiwari asked.
“We have also refused the offer of Commissioner that taxes on all empty plots less 5000 sq ft area would be waived off as we want waiver on all such plots,” he added.
Tiwari was accompanied by BJP corporators Suryakant Rathore, Sunil Bandre, Dilip Sarthi, Sunil Chandrakar, Sarita Verma, Meenal Choubey, Mamta Agrawal, Khemlal Sahu, Bindu Maheshwari, etc.
