Earthmovers company cheats RMC, supplies old machines instead of new

Against contract for 8 new pieces @ Rs 15.87 lakh

Mayor orders probe, asks officials to cancel contract

Raipur, November 03, 2010

An earthmover company has cheated the RMC by supplying two old earthmovers (tyre handlers) worth Rs 31.74 lakh. Surprised by the deception of country’s renowned company having expertise in rail coachers, spare parts, mining and construction equipment, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has ordered probe into the matter and directed the officials to revoke the contract.
Nayak and other civic officials learnt about the company's intentions when the former reached the municipal’s new motor workshop at Tikarapara on Wednesday morning to conduct puja of the two earthmovers transported to the capital city recently. She found that the paint of the earthmovers had peeled off from various places and big rusted patches had appeared on them.
She promptly asked the officials to serve notice to the company seeking clarification on supply of old machines and to take legal against it.
She further directed the officials to constitute a probe committee to check the quality of the machines.
She said the contract given to the company should be revoked and fresh tenders be invited. The company was supposed to supply eight pieces of earthmovers at the rate of Rs 15.87 lakh (total = Rs 1.27 crore).
She said both the machines should not be used and kept in the workshop till the completion of the inquiry. She warned officials to ensure that such instance may not reiterate in future.
Some of the corporators sniff corruption into the ‘earthmover supply contract’ and would separately demand from the Mayor to suspend those civic officials who would be found having nexus with their peers in the company.
On the occasion, leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari, MiC members Gyanesh Sharma, Manoj Kandoi, Amit Das, Jagdish Ahuja and Rakesh Dhotre, Deputy Commissioner (Health) GS Kshatriya, incharge officer of motor workshop KK Chandrakar and zonal health officer Preetam Mishra were also present.

Sonia must speak on scams instead of RSS: BJP

Raipur, November 03, 2010

Slamming Congress for targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and alleging that it has terror links, the BJP on Wednesday said that the AICC president Sonia Gandhi was adopting divide and rule policy in the country by giving such objectionable statements.
The BJP state secretary Sanjay Shrivastava demanded from the Congress-led UPA government at Centre to take action against the guilty people involved in scams and scandals instead of remaining silent spectator.
“Whether it is corruption in the Commonwealth Games, 2G spectrum deal or Adarsh co-operative housing society in Mumbai, neither the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh nor Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have broken their mysterious silence over these glaring issues,” Shrivastava said.
“Instead of attacking a nationalist organisation like the RSS that has a long history of contributions to the society and nation, the party should accept the resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in connection to Adarsh co-operative housing society scam. The society was supposedly meant for widows and veterans of the Kargil war,” he said.
