No supply of substandard machines to RMC: BEML

The Bangalore-based public sector undertaking (PSU) BEML Limited has clarified that the earthmovers supplied to the RMC recently were not substandard and all the allegations leveled against the company are false and negative marketing strategies of its competitors.
The company’s AGM (PR) BS Sridhar informed that BEML is a brand name all over the world and is a PSU under the Ministry of Defence accredited with Mini Rana category 1 status an a premier manufacturer of heavy earthmoving equipment since 46 years. The company holds around 70 percent of domestic market and has overseas market base in over 55 countries, he said. Being an ISO company, the BEML’s business process has been knitted with various systems of documentation which are all subject to inspection, verification and certification, he added.
Notwithstanding, the BEML is licensed to manufacture and supply of new earthmoving equipments and not old ones, he said. The company has necessary documents to establish the manufacturing details of the machines supplied to the RMC, he clarified.
Notably, the company had supplied two earthmovers to the municipal corporation last month, but Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak said the machines looked old. She had instructed the civic officials to conduct probe into the matter and revoke the contract with BEML.
The RMC had contracted with the BEML to supply eight pieces of earthmovers worth Rs 1.27 crore, informed the civic officials.


AMC Mayor Prabodh Minj elected as CCM chairman

During the first meeting of state mayors

The Mayor of Ambikapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) Prabodh Minj was unanimously elected as the chairman of Chhattisgarh Council of Mayors (CCM) during the first meeting of the state’s municipal corporations that held at New Circuit House on Saturday.
Minj, who belonged to BJP and has won the mayoral seat of AMC for the second consecutive time, was elected for the coveted post considering his vast experience and seniority among the other mayors.
Minj said the formation of CCM was long overdue and hoped that all the mayors would jointly raise their issues to the state government without entangling into party politics. “We can have different civic issues, but we all aim to improve the conditions of our regions. Besides, we would also share the effective methods of each other’s municipal corporations so that each place could be developed in an organised manner. For this, we would conduct CCM meetings once in every municipal corporation,” he said adding that the first formal meeting of the CCM would be convened in next 2-3 months.
Earlier, the chairman of All India Council of Mayors (AICM) and Mayor of Aligarh Municipal Corporation Ashutosh Varshney said that aim to constitute AICM and state level mayors’ council was to fight for the common people. “These bodies are excellent platforms for all the mayors to learn, comprehend and adopt different proven ideas, concepts and methodologies to their respective areas,” he said.
The RMC Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak said by far only she was getting opportunity to attend the AICM from Chhattisgarh but with the formation of CCM, the other mayors would not only be included at various posts in AICM, but they would also get chance to explore other municipal corporations under the flagship of state and national councils.
The meting was attended by eight mayors - Kiranmayi Nayak - Raipur, Vani Rao – Bilaspur, Naresh Dakalia – Rajnandgaon, Jogesh Lamba – Korba, Damrudhar Behra - Chirmiri, Mahendra Choutha – Raigarh, Vidya Ratan Bhasin - Bhilai and Prabodh Minj – Ambikapur.
The Durg Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr Shiv Kumar Tamer and Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation Mayor Kiran Dev could not attend the meeting.
On the occasion, Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari, MiC members and corporators of RMC were also present.



Strife during Cong’s ticket distribution meet

The ticket distribution meeting of Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) of Congress on Saturday remained full of commotion as the members looked polarised over the proposed names for president candidates in civic bodies and nagar panchayats. Till the report was file, the final list was not announced by the committee.
The meeting commenced at 12:10 pm, about an hour late from its scheduled and continued till late night. The meeting was delayed as AICC Motilal Vora who arrived here on Saturday morning straightaway moved to Durg and reached Congress Bhawan at about 12 pm. Later, Vora left the meeting at 7:50 pm to board for New Delhi saying that the decision on the final list of candidates would be announced by the PEC.
For mayoral candidature of Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC), there was strong tussle between members. Where the Durg Rural legislator Pratima Chandrakar expressed her desire to combat the polls for mayor seat, the name of ex-mayor from the region - Neeta Lodhi was put forward by Badruddin Quraishi. The name of third candidate - Gurmeet Dhanei was proposed by Vora camp, but till the report was filed, there was a situation of impasse between the PEC members over the mayor candidate.
For president candidate for Birgaon Municipal Council, the PCC working president Satyanarayan Sharma strongly recommended Omprakash Dewangan but the nephew of Omprakash - Aivaj Dewangan’s names was proposed by Vidya Charan Shukla. The candidate from this region too remained could not be finalised till late night.
On the other hand, Premlata Madharia was picked for the presidential candidate for Charoda Municipal Council. Madharia is a staunch supporter of Bhupesh Baghel.
In Jamul Municipal Council, the party has decided to field Vijay Verma who recently defected from Swabhiman Manch and is said to be the supporter of leader of the Opposition in Vidhan Sabha and Saja legislator Ravindra Choubey.
Another aspirant who managed to get shortlisted into final list of president candidates was – Nalinendra Sharma for Khairagarh Municipal Council.
The members who attended the meeting out of 27-member Pradesh Election Committee were –AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, AICC secretary Mirza Irshad Baig, veteran leader Vidya Charan Shukla, PCC president Dhanendra Sahu, PCC working presidents Charandas Mahant and Satyanarayan Sharma, leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Ravindra Choubey, PCC incharge general secretary Subhash Sharma, former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, Mohammad Akbar, Amitesh Shukla, Nand Kumar Patel, Pratima Chandrakar, Badruddin Quraishi, Bhajan Singh Nirankari, Parasram Bhardwaj, Bhupesh Baghel, Bilaspur Municipal Corporation Mayor Vani Rao, Rampukar Singh, Devvrat Singh, Congress Sewa Dal president Ashok Raj Ahuja, state Youth Congress president Uttam Vasudev, Ganga Potai and NSUI president Sanjeev Shukla.


Strong security arrangements made at Congress Bhawan

Taking lesson from the ink hurling incident over state Congress incharge V Narayanasamy a couple of months back and to prevent occurrence of similar circumstances by the disgruntled supporters of the rejected candidates, the PCC had done adequate security arrangements in and around the Congress Bhawan on Saturday during the Pradesh Election Committee meeting. The PCC had engaged party workers including block presidents, YC, NSUI and Sewa Dal members outside the Congress Bhawan to keep an eye on suspicious elements to prevent any embarrassing situation. Besides, the police administration had also pressed sufficient number of its personnel at Congress Bhawan.
