Rs 10.87 cr approved for 25 hostels

The state government has approved s 10.87 crore for 25 pre-matric hostels (nine for girls and 16 for boys) for tribal students in Sarguja and Jagdalpur. These hostels would accommodate about 1250 students. A directive in this regard has been issued by the Tribal Development department at Mantralaya on Friday. The department’s officials informed that 24 hostels would be constructed in Sarguja while one girls’ hostel would be built in Bastar’s Bakawand at an estimated cost of Rs 43.47 lakh. In Sarguja, 23 hostels would be constructed at the rate of 43.47 lakh each and one hostel in village Khaud (development block Odagi) at the cost of Rs 69.30 lakh.


RCJ prisoners appear in open school exams

About 73 prisoners of Raipur Central Jail (RCJ) appeared in the open school examinations recently of which 23 passed with first division, 34 with second division and 11 cleared in supplementary exams. The open school exams were conducted with an aim to bring the prisoners in the mainstream life under welfare and rehabilitation programme.


64000 farmers get recognition under Forest Rights Act

The state government has by far given letter of recognition to 64,180 forest dwelling farmers under Forest Rights Act and is also leveling lands for them to produce crops. The leveling works are being done under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). The government is also providing monetary aid to these farmers for tube wells and fencing of their cultivable lands under Backward Region Grant Fund. After receiving letter of recognition, these farmers are now eligible to take benefit of the government’s all the schemes launched for them. These farmers are also getting all type of advices regarding crop production.


Vora condemns Sudarshan’s remark

The AICC treasurer Motilal Vora has condemned former RSS chief KS Sudarshan’s remarks against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and demand apology from him publicly. “People know how Sonia declined to accept Prime Minister’s post. She is daughter-in-law of Nehru-Gandhi family the members of which have dedicated their life for the country. It is unfortunate that Sudarshan has targeted her,” said Vora.



Govt’s suppressive act intolerable: Cong

Castigating police administration for applying force on the peaceful protest rally of the Congress leaders and workers to disperse them while they were going to Rajbhawan to give memorandum to the Governor in connection to former RSS head KS Sudarshan’s remarks against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the PCC said that it would not tolerate the government’s suppressive act.
“The government has misused it powers and directed the police administration to create obstacle in our peaceful march. This is sheer attack on our democratic rights,” alleged PCC spokesperson Amber Shukla.
Notably, the police on Friday arrested the Congress leaders including PCC president Dhanendra Sahu, Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Ravindra Choubey, PCC working president Satyanaraya Sharma and others including workers during their peace rally against Sudarshan’s objectionable statement against Sonia Gandhi. “The BJP-led state government would never succeed in discouraging Congress by adopting oppressive attitude,” said Shukla.
“Sudarshan should apologise in public for his nasty remarks against Sonia. We also demand his arrest and criminal suit against him,” he added.
Sudarshan had recently called Sonia a CIA agent and accused her of plotting assassinations of her husband and former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi and her mother-in-law and former PM Indira Gandhi.


RMC organises Diwali Milan

The municipal corporation on Friday organised Diwali Milan programme at its head office in Pt Ravishankar Shukla conference hall at 5 pm on Friday.  On the occasion, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak said that the functions like Diwali Milan should be organised on regular basis as it not only destress the municipal’s staffers and elected members, but also make them fresh increase their efficiency. Nayak hoped that similar functions would be organised in future on the occasion of New Year and Holi in municipal’s new head office. The Diwali Milan programme was organised by the municipal’s Culture department and was attended by RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary, leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari, former Mayor Santosh Agrawal, former Speaker Iqbal Ahmed Rizvi, MiC members, zone presidents, corporators and municipal staffers.


Mayor to attend chhath puja today

Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak will participate in the chhath puja that would be offered at 5:30 am at Amatalab and Kari Talab on Saturday. In this connection, she visited both the ponds on Friday along with the MiC members and directed the officials to ensure cleanliness at the bank of ponds and provision of necessary arrangements during puja. Later, Nayak reached Motibagh to take stock of the preparations for Bal Diwas and cultural programme to be organised there on the occasion of birth anniversary of country’s first Prime Minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru on November 14. She asked the officials to ensure cleanliness in the garden by Saturday evening.


1st phase of Water Augmentation Scheme in city from December
Raipur, Nov 12: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department will complete the first phase of Centrally-sponsored Water Augmentation Scheme (WAS) in the capital in December 2010 and the RMC will start supplying 50 MLD water to the Raipurians.
The Rs 303.64 crore WAS is being carried out under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Under this scheme, 17 overhead tanks and one new filter plant are being constructed in the city. After completing all the phases of WAS, the Raipurians will get 150 MLD water and the drinking water problem of the city, especially in summer, would be solved.
The water under first phase of WAS would be supplied in those parts of the city that face drinking water problem throughout the year. The PHE will expedite the ongoing schemes pertaining to drinking water across the state and would set a target to accomplish the task before summer 2011.
In addition, the department will commence the construction works including percolation tanks and stop dams and desilting of ponds soon as Rs 44.62 crore has been released by the Centre under its National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) for the financial year 2010-11.
A team of PHE officials will also visit neighbouring states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh to learn the techniques adopted by them to maintain water quality in urban and rural areas.
Considering delay in water-related schemes in urban areas, the PHE Minister Kedar Kashyap has directed the department’s officials to coordinate with the officials of respective civic body.

The PHE Minister Kedar Kashyap has instructed the department’s officials to complete the water-related schemes within given timeframe. “The delay in the schemes and their increased cost would not be tolerated and responsibility would be fixed on the relevant officials,” said Kashyap. “The government’s prime objective is to provide sufficient water to the citizens round the year for which all the water-related projects should mandatorily be completed on time,” he added. The minister further directed the officials to write a letter to the Union government to release the fund for the approved water supply projects in Raipur, Bilaspur, Raigarh and Kondagaon.
