Historical Budha Talab to be developed into tourist spot

Raipur, January 22, 2011

The historical Budha Talab (Swami Vivekananda Sarovar) will be developed into a tourist spot. In this connection, a meeting of RMC and Chhattisgarh Tourism Board (CTB) officials and public representatives was jointly convened by Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and CTB chairman Krishna Kumar Rai at Neelabh Udyan in Budha Talab on Saturday.
Nayak regretted that in spite of memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the RMC and CTB regarding conservation, beautification and development of Budha Talab a couple of years back, the board had not taken any initiative towards the project.
Pointing that the CTB removed water hyacinths only recently after flood of public complaints, Nayak said such delays would only extend the deadline of the task. She urged from the board chairman to provide the fund to develop the pond and commence the work and assured that the municipal would provide full cooperation in accomplishing the project.
The RMC and CTB will also constitute a committee that would monitor the project. The committee would comprise both RMC and CTB officials including municipal’s MiC members and corporators from the wards surrounding Budha Talab.
Nayak further suggested that four spots should be fixed at Budha Talab for the people who perform their religious works and immerse puja materials. “For this, four kunds should be made so that later all the immersed materials could be lifted by the machine and converted into fertiliser,” she said.
To regularly desilt Budha Talab, Nayak said the board should make a policy under which a machine could be engaged to ensure that the pond remain clean.
The CTB chairman Krishna Kumar Rai said that the pond contain huge amount of waste because people habitually throw filth and garbage in it. He appealed to the people to avoid polluting the pond by throwing waste materials in it and assured that it would be developed into the most sought after tourist spot of the capital. He also urged from the people, especially fishermen, to avoid breaking the boundary wall of the pond and prevent others if they attempt to do so.
