The acting Mayor Manoj Kandoi, MiC member Jaggu Singh Thakur and Congress corporators will offer shramdan at Mahadev Ghat to clean river Kharoon’s embankment where filth and garbage have been thrown in abundance during immersion of Lord Ganesha idols.



Those who hijacked voters will not be spared: Pathak

Claims YC polls were conducted transparently by far

None of the candidates or aspirants has adopted the trend like hijacking voters to win Youth congress (YC) elections and the election committee has succeeded in maintaining transparency during entire procedures by far. The claims were made by YC’s PRO Jai Shankar Pathak while he was interacting with the media on Saturday and sharing his experience on conduction of polls in the state.
However, when pointed that the candidates for working committee and delegates for nine constituencies of Raipur district had overtly flouted election norms and had virtually hijacked hundreds of voters in some of the city hotels and private farm houses in the outskirts, Pathak said stern action would be taken against those who would be found guilty. “On verification, we would forward the complaint to Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections (FAME) that would take appropriate action against the wrongdoers,” he added.
When asked about the charges of majority of voters pertaining to biased polling, Pathak said, “About ten percent of the total 1458 voters had raised their objections pertaining to poll process, but we successfully redressed their grievances.”
He further informed that YC polls were held in all the legislative constituencies expect trouble-stricken Korba where elections could not be conducted due to conflicts among the voters and contestants and violence prior to commencement of polls. “The elections in Korba district will be conducted by the newly formed state working committee in the coming days,” he said.
About state working committee that would be announced after polls on September 27, he informed that among ten seats, five would be kept unreserved and the remaining would be kept for reserved category candidates.
Besides YC president and vice president (both unreserved), there will be eight general secretaries in the working committee. The post of three general secretaries would be kept unreserved while the remaining five would be reserved for OBC, minority, woman, SC/ST and SC/ST woman.
When asked whether AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi would arrive on September 27 during the state convention and the D-day for YC polls, Pathak said, “Rahul’s arrival is yet to be confirmed, however the AICC secretary and IYC incharge Jeetendra Sinha and AICC secretary Rajeev Satav will attend the convention.”


Results unchanged after recounting

The YC election committee on Saturday conducted recounting of Raipur North and West legislative Assembly areas and Bilaspur district’s two legislative areas however there was no change in the result. The recounting was done in presence of FAME observer AK Majumdar. “The counting was done openly and we were confident that there was no mistake from our side. However, when some candidates raised objections and demanded for recounting, we deiced to go for it to clear even the last doubt from their minds,” said YC’s PRO Jai Shankar Pathak and LRO Ganesh Langote on Saturday.




‘Upadhyay’s integral humanism philosophy inspirational’

Pt Deendayal Upadhyay’s philosophy on integral humanism will always inspire the people generation after generation. The state government too is following his philosophy and has launched several schemes to benefit the poor and needy. The words were expressed by Urban Administration and Development Minister Rajesh Munat on Saturday morning at 10 am on the occasion of Upadhyay’s 94th birth anniversary during a tribute programme organised by the RMC before his statue at Telebandha near police station. The state BJP vice president Sachchidanand Upasne said Upadhyay lost his parents at an early age of 16 and thereafter he dedicated his entire life on social service. On the occasion were present acting Mayor Manoj Kandoi, Beej Vikas Nigam chairman Shyam Bais, municipal Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari and others. Later, Munat and other BJP workers garlanded Upadhyay’s image at BJP state office Ekatma Parisar at 11 am.




RMC gets 20-day ultimatum to improve city sanitation

The Urban Administration Directorate has given 20-day ultimatum to the civic officials to improve the city sanitation and road management besides other basic provisions. The Directorate’s Commissioner Sanjay Shukla issued these directives to the municipal while he and RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary were jointly reviewing the arrangements in capital prior to Rajyotsav that will commence from October 26, 2010.
Shukla warned of stern action against those officials who would fail to complete the task within given deadline. “Stop ignoring city sanitation works and be serious in making the city clean,” Shukla said sternly to the officials. On revenue collections, Shukla said the officials should not hesitate in using rights and power given to them under Municipal Corporation Act while recovering revenues from the citizens.
Choudhary asked the zone commissioners and zonal health officers to tour their regions everyday from 7 am to 10 am to ensure that the sanitary works are being done properly. He suggested the officials to interact with the residents during the morning hours pertaining to sanitation and redress their problems on the spot.
Besides, for road repairing and maintenance works, Choudhary directed Superintending Engineer SK Tiwari to constitute zonal teams of officials who would coordinate with the zone commissioners in improving the road conditions of their localities.
He said the litter bins at the sides of main roads should be shifted to nearby lanes of the wards and demolition squads should regularly remove encroachments from the markets and public places to ensure free flow of traffic. To give better appearance to the roads, Choudhary said all the medians and the grills should be painted at the earliest. He directed Deputy Commissioner GS Kshatriya to constantly monitor sanitation and road management works.
The meeting was attended by municipal’s Additional Commissioner Taran Prakash Sinha, Deputy Commissioner GS Kshatriya, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar Dubey, Superintending Engineer SK Tiwari, zone commissioners and zonal health officers.


Collector inspects city’s sanitary works

Collector Rohit Yadav on Saturday inspected RMC’s sanitary arrangements by visiting various parts of the city along with civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary and felt that cleanliness should be done at capital level. Choudhary asked the zone commissioners and zonal health officers to urge residents not to throw garbage in public places and on road and help the RMC in maintaining hygiene in their ambience.
