Raipurians to get 2 km new bypass road

From Telebandha to Railway station, Eight level crossings from city to be removed

Raipur, October 01, 2010

The Raipurians will soon have a new bypass road in the city that will link Telebandha Railway terminal (for narrow gauge Raipur-Dhamtari line) to Railway station. This two km long road will reduce the traffic pressure from the others roads stretching between Telebandha and Railway station. The municipal corporation has sought permission from the Railway administration for construction of this bypass road. This project will be carried out under RMC’s major road master plan.
Besides, the municipal will remove eight level crossings (at Raipur-Dhamtari line) existing in the city as it has become redundant after construction of new Railway terminal at Telebandha. The civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary informed that permission in this connection had already been obtained from the Railway administration and hoped that the motorists would get rid of frequent traffic bottlenecks from these level crossings after widened road. He pointed that the RMC had earlier done road widening under Gaurav Path project by removing Telebandha level crossing.
The eight level crossings that would be removed are at – Fafadih, Devendra Nagar, Pandri, Kota road, Gudhiyari, Shankar Nagar, Shankar Nagar, Khamhardih and Mova.
He informed that the municipal would also construct one inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) and four bus terminals in each corner of the capital after recommendations of consulting agency RITES Limited (expert in urban solutions).

RMC committed to improve city traffic: Choudhary

Raipur, October 01, 2010

The municipal corporation is committed to improve the city traffic and soon various measures would be taken at practical footing. The assertion was made by civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary on Friday who said the RMC was letting no stone unturned to make the road traffic of the capital organised. For this, he informed that the RMC had hired RITES consulting agency RITES Limited that had prepared a long term plan for the Raipur’s city traffic.
On felling of trees at large number at roadsides, Choudhary said the RMC would plant saplings at least ten times of the trees chopped for road widening. He informed that to effectively implement the master plan for road widening, the RMC had chopped tress at Sharda chowk, Ghadi chowk, from Shastri chowk to Telebandha chowk, from Ayurvedic College to Amanaka, Budhapara electricity office chowk, Lakhe Nagar chowk, Raipura chowk and Gaurav Path no 2 and 3.
He further informed that the RMC will construct road medians and install street lights at MG road from Sharda chowk to Gurunanak chowk, Bharat Mata chowk to level crossing Shankar Nagar, Kotwali chowk to Budhapara electricity office chowk, Risala Naka chowk based at Motibagh to Banjari Baba Mazar chowk.
Choudhary said the municipal had installed street lights at several busy roads of the capital including road from Pandri bus stand to Avanti Bai chowk, Tikarapara police station to Siddharth chowk, Budhapara electricity office chowk to Kalibadi chowk, Jaistambh chowk to Kotwali chowk and completed construction of road median and installation of street lights from Azad chowk to Tatya Para chowk.
He said small median gaps at many roads had been closed in the city to smoothen the road traffic. By far, several median gaps have been closed from Shastri chowk to Tatibandh chowk, at Jail road and old Dhamtari road at Santoshi Nagar. Now, few small median gaps from Lakhe Nagar chowk to Raipura chowk would also be closed.
For convenience of commuters, the RMC has marked 45 spots in the city to construct auto rickshaw stands. “We have already constructed bus stoppages at various places and more would be constructed in coming months so that the auto rickshaws and buses could stop at specified spots,” Choudhary said.

RMC fails again, now new civic HO to be ready by Nov 1

Deadline to complete the project was October 2, 2010, construction of indoor stadium to take more time

Raipur, October 01, 2010

Once again the RMC has failed to meet its own deadline to complete its new hi-tech head office and indoor stadium projects. Now, the new time period to achieve the task of civic HO has been extended till November 1, 2010 while the project of indoor stadium is expected to be delayed by a couple of months.
Notably, the deadlines to complete the two major projects of the municipal had been extended some 5-6 times in the past ever since they commenced, but the last timeframe was given by the civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary on September 15, 2010 who had sternly instructed the officials to complete both works by October 2, 2010 during his inspection to the construction sites.
However, none of the pending works of both the projects have been completed in past fifteen days that exposes the lethargic attitude of the municipal officials.
The fresh directives came from Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak who on Friday inspected the civic HO along with ex-Mayor Sunil Soni and expressed her annoyance over the delay in the construction works. She was also irritated by arrangements being made in the conference hall for general body meeting and said it should be amply spaced and properly organised.
The indoor stadium with 5000-seart capacity is being constructed at Sports Complex Budhapara at the cost of Rs 21 crore while the estimated cost of municipal HO located near DPR office is about 1176.51 lakh.
