BJP trying to distort history: Congress

Raipur, October 29, 2010

The PCC has alleged that the BJP was trying to distort the country’s history by trying to remove photos of some of the great leaders from the schools. “We condemn the BJP-led state government’s move as it is only attempting to twist the facts,” the PCC leaders said and demanded that the photos of these great leaders should be placed again in the schools.
“It is really unfortunate that the BJP has removed the photos of India’s first Prime Minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and Home Minister Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel who were part of country’s independence movement. Besides, the photos of the nation’s first PM Indira Gandhi and the youngest PM Rajeev Gandhi were also removed which indicates that the government wants to deprive the next generation from the actual history,” said PCC president Dhanendra Sahu and other party leaders.
Notably, the Chhattisgarh Text Book Corporation (CTBC) has replaced four photos of the great leaders with Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pt Deendayal Upadhyay in the schools drawing flak not only from the opposition parties, but also from various organisations and educationists.
Protesting the CTBC’s decision to remove the photos of the great leaders and holding the state government responsible for it, the members of Youth Congress (YC) and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) had gheraoed the corporation’s office on October 28, 2010. The YC and NSUI have also warned that they would jointly launch a state-wide agitation against the government if the photos would not be placed in the schools again.
