To uplift the impoverished section of the country, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had implemented 20-point program. Her invaluable contributions in development of the nation are significant. The words were expressed by PCC president Dhanendra Sahu on the occasion of 93rd birth anniversary of India’s first woman PM Indira Gandhi in a symposium organised on her life at Congress Bhawan on Friday.
“During her tenure as the PM, Indira not only took initiative for nationalisation of banks and consolidated other sectors, but she also opened avenue for womenfolk in the political field,” Sahu said.
“She would also be remembered for implementing women empowerment programmes in the country,” he added.
On the occasion, the PCC working president Satyanarayan Sharma said Indira sacrificed her life for the nation’s unity and integrity. The Rajim legislator Amitesh Shukla said the Congress workers should feel pride on celebrating the birth anniversary of Indira who had dedicated her entire life to the nation.
The chief organiser of state Congress Sewadal Ashok Raj Ahuja said it was Indira who had initiated steps to remove poverty and the governments must follow her measures in current scenario.
The working president of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Mahila Congress (CPMC) Kalpana Patel said that Indira would always be remembered for her tough decisions for the benefit of the country. The CPMC also distributed study materials and stationary items to the children on the occasion.
The members of Youth Congress Parliament Raipur led by their president Vinod Tiwari gifted images of the Indira Gandhi to the schools.
Earlier, the Congress leaders and workers garlanded the statue of Indira Gandhi’s statue at Kalibadi chowk at 10 am on Friday.
The symposium was also addressed by the DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, CPMC president Kalpana Patel and PCC vice president Ambar Shukla.
On the occasion, the PCC incharge general secretary Subhash Sharma, Mahendra Chhabra, DCC general secretary Dr Niranjan Haritwal and others were present.



Cong to gherao CECB on Nov 22

Will demand from it to take action against polluting industries

Upset with the lethargic attitude of Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) which is baulking to take any action against the polluting industrial units in and around the capital city, the District Congress Committee (DCC) has decided to gherao the CECB office on November 22, 2010.
“The Raipurians are really frustrated by the poor response of CECB’s against the polluting units. The Congress has reminded the board several times in the past regarding the rising industrial pollution in the capital and had demanded to curb it by closing the industries that are violating pollution norms, but all the reminders and memorandums were only treated as formal complaint with deaf ears,” said the DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal.
“In the recent past, the pollution in the city has increased to a marked level. Among the most affected regions are the 24 villages near Urla and Siltara industrial areas where the farmers are not even able to do farming. Still, in some places, the crops have been produced by have been damaged by the pollution,” said Dhariwal.
“The people dwelling close to the industrial areas are also suffering from various diseases including asthma, diarrhoea, malaria and other problems caused due to polluted air and water,” he added.
“The CECB is also responsible for not taking stern action against those units that have already installed air pollution control equipment - Electro-Static Precipitators (ESP), but switch it on during production hours,” he said.
Notably, different political and social organisations have frequently demanded from the CECB to tighten noose on the norm violating industries. In this regard, the legislators from both Congress and BJP have expressed their concern in the Vidhan Sabha several times and had urged the Environment Minister to quickly shut down the polluting industries.
The Dharsiva legislator Devji Bhai Patel from the ruling party had even slammed the state government for keeping its eyes closed on the issue of increasing pollution in the capital and its surroundings.


Raipur to get one tank, two howitzers for display

The Ministry of Defence has agreed to send one tank and two howitzers to the RMC for display in the capital. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak had recently urged from the Defence Ministry in this regard mentioning that the weapons in display would not only make the Raipurians feel proud about its military forces and create patriotism, but even the youths would take interest in joining the Indian army and serving the nation.


Civic health team inspects two mutton shops, seals one

The municipal corporation’s heath team on Friday inspected two mutton shops located at main road Mova (Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar ward) after receiving several complaints against them. During inspection, the team sealed one of the mutton shops – Ayan Chicken Centre after finding that it was being operated without municipal licence. Similarly, while inspecting another mutton shop – Broiler Industries near Mova overbridge, the team found that owner was operating it without shop establishment licence and had not maintained hygiene in the shop. The team immediately imposed Rs 1000 fine on the shop owner and asked him to obtain shop establishment licence in three days to save his shop from being sealed. On the occasion, MiC member Anwar Hussein, zone 2 commissioner Vinod Pandey, zonal health officer Kamal Narayan Sharma and assistant engineer K Pradhan were also present.
