RMC to kick start massive nullah cleaning drive again

Raipur, November 26, 2010

The municipal corporation will again commence its massive nullah cleaning campaign in next couple of days. The objective of the drive would be to thoroughly clean all the small and big nullahs of the city before rainy season to ensure that the waste water overflow many not cause waterlogging in their nearby areas.
In this regard, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has directed deputy commissioner (Health) Rakesh Jaiswal to submit a work plan pertaining to nullahs that must comprise of effective cleaning methods, improvement of drainage system of nullahs, etc.
Nayak’s directive came after she visited several nullahs of the city on Friday along with MiC members and civic officials and found that in spite of municipal’s cleaning drive last summer before rains, many of the nullahs have choked again.
According to information, the comprehensive work plan will be prepared on the basis of zonal reports regarding nullahs. Jaiswal has already instructed the zonal commissioners to submit their reports in a day or two.
The RMC further aims to remove all the encroachments over the nullahs so that the cleaning works could be done on regular basis. The municipal had launched intermittent drives to remove such encroachments in the past but people have done illegal construction (both makeshift and permanent) over the nullahs again.
The RMC will also purchase a machine through which the sanitation gangs would conveniently carry out deep cleaning of the nullahs. For this, the municipal’s Health department will prepare a separate proposal and would invite tenders to purchase machine after obtaining administrative approval.
To ensure proper drainage of waste water from nullahs, the municipal will increase their width where they are narrow.

Cong: Sack Netam for his irresponsible statement

On Ritwik murder case in Ambikapur

Raipur, November 26, 2010

Slamming Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ramvichar Netam on his controversial statement on Ritwik murder case in Ambikapur recently, the Congress has demanded from the state government to sack the minister. “Netam, who is also the Sarguja incharge, has given an irresponsible and insensitive statement which is intolerable. The government should immediately sack him,” said leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Ravindra Choubey on Friday after returning from Ambikapur along with PCC president Dhanendra Sahu and other senior Congress leaders. The Opposition has categorically said that it would grill the government in this issue in the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha.
“This is not the first time that Netam has given such an objectionable statement which is against the feelings of people,” Choubey said.
He informed that the local residents were severely hurt by the remarks made by the minister who held Ritwik’s society responsible for his murder. “Netam went onto the extent of saying that Ritwik was killed because he was not destined to be the part of his family. These are words of minister who won the election from where the innocent child was murdered,” Choubey said.
“The family members of Ritwik informed the police about the incident on the same day but in spite of tiresome attempts, the cops could not find any clue about the deceased. This is the failure of the police. However, Netam is attempting to hide the government and administration’s indifference and weakness,” he said.
