Rajeev Gandhi ward lack basic facilities: Rathore

About 500 ward residents take out massive protest rally from Fafadih to RMC headquarters

Raipur, January 11, 2011

The residents of Rajeev Gandhi ward are facing several problems due to indifference of civic authorities. The area lacked basic facilities like road, water, street lights and sanitation that indicate failure of Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and her ruling Congress party at RMC. The allegations against Nayak and her party were leveled by spokesperson of BJP corporators Suryakant Rathore who led a massive protest rally of about 500 residents from Fafadih to RMC headquarters demanding on Tuesday.
“Filth and garbage can be seen everywhere in the ward because the RMC has not provided sufficient number of cleaning workers. For the past six months, the ward is dependent on 8-10 sanitary workers who remain absent from work on regular basis,” Rathore said.
He alleged that the ruling Congress had stalled the sanitary works in wards on pretext of tenders.
“Besides, the problem of drinking water still prevails in the ward. In summer, the civic authorities had promised that the ward’s drinking water problem would be solved before winter season but it seems the residents would have to face acute water crisis in next summer too,” he said.
Rathore pointed that the RMC is supposed to construct an overhead water tank in Krishi Upaj Mandi ground under Rs 303.64 crore-Water Augmentation Scheme but no initiative had taken by far.
He further informed that the children had to play on roads due to undeveloped garden. “About 80 percent works of the garden at sector-3 in Devendra Nagar has been completed but then suddenly the RMC stopped the project. We have repeatedly requested from the Mayor and the civic administration to complete the project, but no action was taken,” Rathore said.
“Similarly, unhygienic conditions prevail in Sahupara and Paras Nagar because of ramshackle sulabh toilet. Even the sewerage system of Devendra Nagar sector-3 has completely damaged due to which the filthy water enter into the houses,” he added.
