Low voltage, undeclared power cuts irk Raipurians
Ward 9 corporator submits memorandum to CSPHCL with his seven-point demand
Raipur, Aug 30, 2010
The Raipurians are severely irked with low voltage problem and undeclared power cuts being done by the Chhattisgarh State Power Holding Company Limited (CSPHCL) for the past several months. In spite the government’s claims that Chhattisgarh is a power surplus state, power cut is being done in several parts of the capital, especially during night and early morning.
The low voltage problem can be seen not only in the slum areas, but even in the colonies where people had to face inconvenience. Apart from this, the sub-stations of various areas cut power for about 15 minutes to 2-3 hours during night hours. The residents of Tatibandh, Veer Sawarkar Nagar, Mahoba Bazar, Kota, Sarona, Hirapur and Chandanidih complained that they had to face intermittent power cuts usually during 3 am to 9 am. “This is a very important stretch of time as we normally take sound sleep during 3 am to 6 am and after that our daily chores being along with the supply of municipal water,” said one of the residents.
The residents of ward 9 (Thakkar Bapa ward), too, are facing low voltage problem for a long time, but the CSPHCL has not taken any initiative in this regard so far in spite of repeated reminders to the relevant officials. Irked by the apathy of the power company, the local corporator Sundar Lal Jogi on Monday submitted a memorandum to the CSPHCL office with his seven points demand seeking redressal at the earliest.
Jogi said the low voltage problem prevailed in all the ten areas of his wards. The domestic power consumers say that neither they could do many of their electricity related works in the absence of full voltage, nor their children could study in the dim light.
A majority of the street lights are faulty and the remaining ones never function due to low voltage, he said. In this scenario, many areas have become accident-prone during night hours and the women and girls also hesitate in going because of accumulation of anti-socials at squares, he added.
Jogi further demanded from the power company to lay three phase power line in Diksha Nagar, Gulab Nagar, Parvati Nagar and Prem Nagar where single phase power line exists. Besides, he said in spite of installation of 16 poles in Guru Ghasidas Nagar for more than 12 months, the power company has started the power line, he pointed.
