Raipur, September 23, 2010

The acting Mayor Manoj Kandoi on Thursday approved Rs 6.74 crore for various development works including roads, drains, culverts, etc in all the 70 wards. The works have been approved on the basis of 149 proposals received by the municipal corporation from 70 wards. Kandoi informed that all the works would commence after rainy season. In this regard, he has issued necessary instructions to Superintending Engineer SK Tiwari and all the zone commissioners. Kandoi also approved Rs three lakh for each zone for road repairing works after monsoon.
The highest number of proposals came from zone 7, i.e. 50 against which the RMC approved Rs 78.170 lakh. From zone 1, the municipal received 19 proposals from the ten wards and accordingly Rs 96.043 have been approved to carry out development works in the wards. Similarly, against 17 proposals from eight wards of zone 2 the RMC will spend Rs 78.390 lakh. In zone 3, there are eight wards and the municipal corporation had received one proposal from each ward and has accordingly sanctioned Rs 79.510 lakh.
In zone 4, there are ten wards and the RMC received 18 proposals against which it has approved Rs 91.632 lakh while as against 14 proposals from eight wards of zone 5 the municipal would spend Rs 73.480 lakh. In zone 6, there are ten wards and 15 proposals reached to the RMC against which it has nodded for Rs 100.740 lakh while Rs 75.960 lakh would be spent against eight proposals from eight wards of zone 8.
However, the corporators are not satisfied with the fund allotted for the development works. They say that besides roads and drains, there are many more problems in their respective wards and considering complete development of each ward, the RMC should have sanctioned more funds. They informed that problem of contaminated water still prevailed in many wards due to leaking water pipelines laid close to drains and nullahs. These pipelines are very old and need replacement at the earliest for which additional fund should have been approved, the corporators said.
Similarly, street lights in several localities are not functioning, gardens are in abject conditions and community buildings are not being maintained properly in the absence of adequate fund, the corporators added.
