Cong Disciplinary panel for suspension of 4 corporators
For casting their vote during zone prez polls
Raipur, October 25, 2010
The DCC disciplinary committee on Monday recommended for suspension of all the four Congress corporators of zone 6 who voted during RMC’s recently held zone president election in spite of clear instructions from the party to refrain from participating in the polling. The committee was severely irked with the attitude of the corporators who did not pose seriousness towards the show cause notice issued by the DCC to clarify their stand.
The meeting of five-member committee including Ambar Shukla, Madan Lal Taleda, Santosh Agrawal and Suresh Mishra was chaired by Niranjan Haritwal. All the members unanimously agreed that the corporators should be suspended so that the party workers may not violate discipline in future.
Notably, the zone president election was conducted on October 8, 2010. Before polling, both the Congress and BJP had reached to a consensus that the Congress corporators of zone 6 would not cast their vote as two independent corporators - Fekan Verma (Dr Vipin Bihari Sur ward) and Pardesi Ram Sahu (Chandrashekhar Azad ward) were in the fray for president post.
In this connection, DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal had issued a whip to the Congress corporators that no one would participate in polling. However, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak asked the four party corporators from zone 6 - Amit Das (Moreshwar Rao Gadre ward), Samir Akhtar (Shaheed Rajeev Pandey ward), Jagdish Ahuja (Ravindranath Tagore ward) and Lekhram Verma (Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee ward) to cast their vote in favour of the independent corporator Fekan Verma.
Irked by Nayak’s decision, the dissident Congress corporators complained to the DCC president Dhariwal against her as well as the four party corporators from zone 6 who violated discipline.
The DCC immediately shot show cause notice to these four corporators asking them to give clarification in fourteen days. Recently, the DCC had clearly hinted that these corporators would not be absolved.
