Cong protests illegal felling of trees, gheraos PCCF

Warns to gherao Forest Minister if no action taken in one week

Raipur, December 06, 2010

Protesting against illegal felling of green and fruit bearing trees in the state at large scale, the DCC on Monday gheraoed Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Dheerendra Sharma and gave him ultimatum of one week to take action against the guilty ones in one week. The delegation of DCC members led by their president Inderchand Dhariwal submitted a memorandum to Sharma pertaining to chopping of trees across the state.
The DCC warned that if the felling the trees would continue even after a week then it would gherao the Forest Minister Vikram Usendi. Sharma assured the DCC delegation that stern action would be taken against those who would be found guilty.
The delegation informed Sharma that green trees from all parts of the state were being chopped in spite of the government’s apparent prohibitory orders. “It is surprising that the state government is spending crores of rupees on plantation works but the Forest department has failed to check cutting of trees,” Dhariwal said.
“There is a big racket behind these illegal works and a number of Forest officials and members of flying squads are involved in it. This is the reason the illegally chopped trees are being frequently transported in trucks and matadors and the check posts of Forest department do not stop such vehicles,” he alleged.
The DCC delegation was comprised of organisation’s general secretary Dr Niranjan Haritwal, spokesperson Sheikh Shakeel, corporator Samir Akhtar, Mohammad Amjad, Harish Santwani, Ishak Sethi, Prakash Manikpuri, Rashid Khan, Jafar Hussein, Vijay George, Nandan Jha and others.

BJP corporators gherao civic Commissioner

In protest of no development works in wards

Raipur, December 06, 2010

Protesting against no development works in the wards for the past one years, the BJP corporators on Monday no0n gheraoed civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary and demanded from him to promptly issue orders for new works in the wards through the fund released by Urban Administration and Development Department. Choudhary has assured that development works would begin in all the 70 wards soon and immediately issued work orders for three zones – 1, 3 and 7, informed the leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari.
“We have warned Choudhary that if the work orders for remaining zones would not be issued till 12 pm on Tuesday, we would again gherao him till our demands get fulfilled,” Tiwari said. The BJP corporators kept on demanding for action from Choudhary from 1-3:30 pm till the latter conceded and gave instructions to the officials.
“The Urban Administration and Development Minister Rajesh Munat had sanctioned Rs seven crores for development works in the wards of RMC on January 5, 2010 but a sizable chunk of this fund has been spent on such works that are not related to the public,” Tiwari said.
“How come the amount from the general fund be spent on repairing and maintenance of residences of the municipal officials and on major projects worth crores of rupees. The RMC should demand separate from the state government for its major projects and must spend the general fund only on the development of wards,” he added.
The BJP corporators also expressed their indignation over non-responsive attitude of the civic officials. “The officials do not respond to the corporators, not even over phone. They ignore us because by saying that we have been elected only for five years and they are the permanent part of the civic body, whether at RMC or elsewhere,” Tiwari said.
“We require coordination and reciprocity from the officials from the morning onwards as each corporator face queries from the local residents pertaining to road, electricity, sanitation, water and other basic problem on daily basis,” he added.
The BJP corporators including Tiwari from zone 6 had recently created scene during the review meeting convened by their zone president Fekan Verma on no development works in their wards.

Dr OP Dewangan, Patiram Sahu file nomination papers

For Birgaon Municipal Council chairman seat

Raipur, December 06, 2010

The election fever grips Birgaon as Congress candidate Dr Omprakash Dewangan and BJP candidate Patiram Sahu on Monday noon filed nomination papers for Birgaon Municipal Council’s chairman seat. Another ticket aspirant from Congress Aivaj Dewangan, nephew of Dr Omprakash and strong contenders from BJP Horilal Dewangan and Jabbar Dagli too filed nomination papers even after their respective parties ignored them. Five more independent candidates for chairman seat also filed nomination papers as independents.
Aivaj, Dagli and Horilal have indicated that they would withdraw their nomination papers and are likely to rebel from the party to fight the poll as independent candidates.
In this scenario, there will be five main contenders in fray, still the BJP and Congress are claiming that there is straight fight between the two parties and have categorically rejected the other angles.
However, the locals are not fully agreed with the two major parties of the state and feel that if Aivaj, Horilal and Dagli would not win the election, they would at least give hiccups to Dr Omprakash and Sahu.
Aivaj, whose name was proposed by Vidya Charan Shukla during the Congress Pradesh Election Committee’s marathon ticket distribution meeting, was debunked because the PCC working president Satyanarayan Sharma strongly recommended Dr Omprakash pointing his past experience.
Dr Omprakash was the first chairman of the Birgaon Municipal Council after the civic body came into existence. During his tenure, Dewangan had launched aggressive campaign against the BJP-led state government for its Rs 2 per kg rice distribution formula to the BPL families terming it irrational and disadvantageous for the poor in long term. Considering all aspects, the Congress has put its faith on Dr Omprakash for the second time.
During the extended term of Birgaon Municipal Council, the BJP had nominated Patiram Sahu as the chairman. Sahu, who is staunch supporter of Raipur Rural legislator Nandkumar Sahu, was preferred over Horilal and Dagli because of his 12-month experience of the Birgaon politics as council chairman.
Horilal, who lost to Dr Omprakash during the first Birgaon Municipal Council poll, had claimed before the party chief that he would not repeat the history and win the battle for BJP this time. Similarly, Dagli, former corporator from the council, too had attempted to convince his party bosses that he would be the most suitable candidate. However, neither Horilal, nor Dagli could impress the party with their logics and Sahu finally got the ticket.
