Cong: BJP responsible for expensive education

Raipur, September 16, 2010

Deploring the day-long bandh called by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in protest against expensive education, the PCC has termed it sheer drama and feigned attempt to convey message in general that it always raises public-related issues.
“It is strange that the ABVP is protesting against the expensive education system at present for which the BJP itself is responsible,” said PCC spokesperson Iqbal Ahmed Rizvi and NSUI leaders in a joint statement on Thursday pointing that the state was flooded with the ‘inordinate fee charging academic institutions’ emerged during BJP government’s regime.
“Instead of protests and demonstrations, the ABVP must urge the state government to tighten noose on the expensive institutions a majority of which are owned by those businessmen who have proximity with the BJP,” they said.
“The BJP is encouraging those who have done commercialisation of education and are now financially exploiting the local students by charging high fee,” they said. The Congress said the ABVP should demand clarification from the BJP government for being mum on injustice done by the expensive academic institutions against the students of Chhattisgarh.

50 encroachments removed from Shankar Nagar, Shakti Nagar

Raipur, September 16, 2010

The main roads of Shankar Nagar and Shakti Nagar on Thursday suddenly looked beautiful and amply spaced with no encroachments at the roadsides. The turnaround in the two areas came after the municipal corporation’s demolition squad remained active yet another day and removed about fifty encroachments from the main roads of both the localities including two eating joints Fruit n Fruit and Choupati at Shankar Nagar.
Although, some of the encroachers attempted to pose resistance during demolition works but they failed to obstruct the municipal’s action owing to presence of large number of police personnel.
The civic Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary informed that the hundred feet wide Shankar Nagar road had been narrowed down due to encroachments, especially because of illegal constructions done by Fruit n Fruit shop owner Mukesh Hatija and Choupati’s owners Manish Thakkar and Ashish Mishra.
“The RMC had earlier shot three back-to-back notices on the owners of these two commercial establishments under section 307(2) and 307(3) of Municipal Corporation Act to remove their illegal construction voluntarily, but none complied,” informed Choudhary.
About forty more encroachments were removed from Shankar Nagar including dhaba, kiosks, hutments, sheds and boundary walls.
The demolition squad then engaged its 3D to remove about ten kiosks, huts and other illegal constructions from main road of Shakti Nagar.
Choudhary has made it apparent that whether it is a marketplace or residential area, the RMC would not allow the illegal occupants to ruin the city traffic and present its ugly picture to the visitors.
