Government procures over 5.19 lakh MT paddy

The government had procured 5,19,158 MT paddy from 1587 procurement centres under 1333 primary cooperative societies of the state by far under minimum support price (MSP) in the current Kharif season 2010-11. The government has procured over three lakh MT common paddy and two lakh MT grade-A paddy of the total procured paddy.
The common paddy has been procured at the rate of Rs 1000 per quintal and grade-A paddy at the rate of Rs 1030 per quintal.
The procurement began from November 1, 2010 and it would continue till January 31, 2011. However, paddy purchase would be continued through linking from only those farmers with balance loan to adjust their loan amount by February 15, 2010.
The officials of Food and Civic Supplies Department informed that the highest amount of paddy has been procured from Raipur district, i.e. 134804 MT through 276 cooperative committees followed by Durg that has purchased 104297 MT paddy. 
Similarly, the amounts of paddy purchased in other districts are – Mahasamund – 102463 MT, Dhamtari – 65998 MT, Rajnandgaon – 43379 MT, Raigarh – 25605 MT, Bilaspur – 19010 MT, Kabeerdham – 6125 MT, Kanker – 7018 MT, Korba – 913 MT, Sarguja – 846 MT, Janjgir-Champa – 946 MT, Jagdalpur – 2156 MT, Koria (Baikunthpur) – 294 MT, Jashpur – 268 MT and Dantewada – 36 MT.


Delegation of Dalli Rajhara Municipal Council meets CM

A delegation of Dalli Rajhara Municipal Council met Chief Minister Raman Singh at his residential office on Sunday night. The delegation was led by council’s president Mukti Guha Niyogi. The delegation gave a memorandum to the CM seeking to solve the problems of their region at the earliest. The CM assured that the government would take suitable initiative in this connection. The delegation was comprised of vice-president of Dalli Rajhara Municipal Council along with several corporators.


Demand to develop picnic spot near Boirdih

A delegation of village Sahgaon under Daundi Lohara development block (Durg district) has demanded from Chief Minister Raman Singh to develop picnic spot on the large tracts of open lands between Boirdih and a nearby hill close to their village. Besides, the provision of boating facility at Gondli reservoir close this place would attract large number of tourists, they suggested.
The picnic spot and boating facility would also create job opportunities for locals, they said. The delegation put their demands before the CM during their courtesy visit to latter at his residential office on Sunday night.
The delegation further sought preservation of eitchen midden at Chitvadongri hill close to the village. The delegation also requested from the CM to quickly commence the diversion irrigation project on Jujhara nullah Keshkalghat.
They informed that the government had approved the project much earlier but it has been delayed by the Water Resources Department. Through this project, the farmers of about seven villages would get sufficient water for irrigation, they said.
The villagers further demanded one sub-health centre and a veterinary hospital in Sahgaon village. They demanded the macadamisation of Bharda-Baihakuwa should also be commenced for convenience of commuters.
The CM assured the delegation that the government would seriously consider its demands. The delegation led by PS Thakur and sarpanch of Sahgaon village panchayat Hiraman.



KGM invites CM at martyrs’ day function

The Kendriya Gond Mahasabha (KGM) Dhamdhagarh (Durg) has invited Chief Minister Raman Singh in at martyrs’ day function on the death anniversary of martyr Veer Narayan Singh on December 19, 2010. The KGM requested the CM to attend the function when its members paid courtesy visit to the latter at his residence on Sunday night. Thanking the KGM members for the invitation, the CM gave them his best wishes for the function. On the occasion, KGM Dhamdhagarh president MD Thakur, general secretary Neelkanth Garhe and Birbal Thakur were also present.


Essay, slogan making competition today

The municipal corporation’s interschool essay and slogan making competitions will be organised at Naveen Saraswati Girls Higher Secondary School from 1 pm on Tuesday. The students from class IXth to XIIth will participate in these competitions. The subject of the essay competition would be - ‘role and contribution of students in city sanitation arrangements and public participation’. Similarly, the subject for slogan making competition would be – ‘cleanliness in city’. There will be first, second and third prizes in both the competitions. The winner will receive Rs 3100 cash prize, runner-up - Rs 2100 and second runner-up- Rs 1100. Besides, the other participants would receive consolation prizes along with citation. The maximum word and time limit for essay competition would be 300 words and 90 minutes. Similarly, 30 minutes will be given for slogans making. The winners will be decided by the panel of seven members that will be chaired by RMC’s Education Officer Kiranmayi Tiwari. The other six members will be experts in different subjects.



Last day of discount in property tax today

The municipal’s discount offer of 6.25 percent on property tax would be effective till Tuesday. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has again appealed to the citizens to take the benefit of the discount at large number on the last day of the offer on Tuesday. The municipal corporation has announced to give discount of 6.25 percent to the citizens if they would pay their property taxes before November 30. The decision was taken in the recently held Mayor-in-Council (MiC) meeting with an aim to encourage the citizens to pay their property taxes timely with discount offer and to increase revenue. The relaxation would be only on the property tax for the fiscal 2010-11, said Nayak.


Mayor dedicates 12 hand fogging machines to public

Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak dedicated 12 new hand fogging machines to the public at function organised by the RMC at its Tikarapara-based Motor Workshop premises on Monday. All the hand fogging machines had been purchased from the financial aid provided by Rajya sabha member Mohsina Kidwai from her MP Local Area Development Fund (MPLADF). Kidwai had sanctioned Rs 15 lakh for purchase of hand fogging machines. The cost of each machine is Rs 41000.
Nayak said all the eight zones will get one hand fogging machine while two would be engaged in VIP areas and the other two would be kept as reserved stock. In this direction, she asked deputy commissioner (Health) Rakesh Jaiswal to allot one machine each to the zones immediately.
To ensure that fogging has been conducted properly, Nayak said the teams engaged in the work should mandatorily take signature of the local corporator after accomplishing their task. She asked the health teams to extensively cover every nook and corners of all the wards during the municipal’s ongoing anti-larva campaign – malaria control fortnight that has commenced on November 24, 2010.


‘Govt committed to provide health facilities to rural areas’

The state government is committed to provide health facilities to the rural areas. The words were expressed by Health Minister Amar Agrawal during the conference of BJP medical cell’s Raipur district doctors at party’s state office Ekatma Parisar on Monday. Appreciating the doctors practicing in the rural pockets, Agrawal said they were playing key role in the society.
On the occasion, the doctors requested the minister to solve the problems they face at villages. They assured the minister that they would attempt to increase the vote bank of BJP in rural areas by at least five percent for party mission 2013-14. The BJP’s state working committee member Dr JP Sharma informed that about 1000 doctors took part in the conference.


Cong to stage statewide dharna today

In protest against govt’s failure to curb rising crime

Protesting against the government’s failure to prevent rising criminal cases in the state that led to murders of four innocent children in separate incidents in November, the Congress will stage its statewide dharna from 11 am to 2 pm on Tuesday. After dharna, the party’s district and block committees would submit a memorandum on the name of Governor to their respective Collectors and block officers.
“The people of Chhattisgarh are feeling a sense of insecurity owing to sudden spurt in the graph of criminal cases like murder, abduction and human sacrifice. The BJP-led government is completely responsible for uncontrolled law and order in the state,” alleged the PCC president Dhanendra Sahu, leader of the Opposition Ravindra Choubey and PCC working president duo Charandas Mahant and Satyanarayan Sharma in a joint statement.
A delegation of PCC leaders on Monday evening paid condolence visit to the family members of the deceased Roshan Dongre at Ram Nagar. The Congress leaders further took stock of the situation in the area by interacting with the residents who informed that they were completely shattered by incident.
The residents pointed that the police outpost in their locality was not operative since a long time and was restarted only after the incident.


YC to take out scarf rally today

The Youth Congress (YC) will take out a scarf rally on Tuesday in their protest against the government’s action against the motorists who cover their face with scarves while riding their two-wheelers. Slamming the government for failing to curb rising pollution in the state, the YC said the people had no choice other than to cover their face with scarf when they go out of their home.
