Vora, Baig to attend PCC meeting today

The AICC treasurer Motilal Vora and secretary Mirza Irshad Baig would attend the PCC meeting at 11 am in Congress Bhawan on Saturday. The duo would arrive in the state capital from New Delhi on Saturday morning. The Union Minister of State for Culture & Planning and Chhattisgarh incharge V Narayanasamy, who too had earlier confirmed to attend the PCC meeting, has cancelled his tour to Raipur. The Congress leaders would gather on Saturday to finalise the list of candidates for 13 civic bodies and seven nagar panchayats. The meeting is likely to be uproarious over the name of mayoral candidate for Bhilai Municipal Corporation as no consensus has been evolved on the names of strong probable by legislators - Pratima Chandrakar (Durg Rural), Badruddin Quraishi (Bhilai City) and Bhajan Singh Nirankari (Vaishalinagar) who were given the responsibility by the PCC after through instruction of high command Vora.

The BJP has announced the candidates for 67 wards of Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday. The mayoral candidate is likely to be announced in a day or two. The election for BMC apart from 12 other civic bodies and by-elections for seven nagar panchayats would be conducted on December 21, 2010.
Among the selected candidates for 67 wards there are 11 under general category, 5 SC, 1 - ST, 5 - woman category, 3 - SC woman category, 1 - ST woman category, 3 - OBC woman category and 6 - OBC.

15 illegal mutton shops removed

The RMC on Friday removed about 15 illegal mutton shops from Amapara vegetable market and near level crossing at Fafadih. This the second time in the past three months that the municipal corporation has taken against these illegal shops. The civic squad seized all the items from the mutton shop owners and warned them of stern action if they would reoccupy the space.


State mayors’ meeting to form CCM today

The mayors of state’s municipal corporations will meet at New Circuit House on Saturday. The objective of the meeting is to constitute Chhattisgarh Council of Mayors (CCM) through which the civic issues of the municipal corporations would be raised jointly before the state government.
The council will further put its demand before the government to provide complete liberty to the civic bodies on the basis of 74th Constitutional amendment that advocates for consolidation of such elected bodies. The council would also be a common platform for all the mayors to share their ideas and concepts to obtain symmetry in the developments projects of all the municipal corporations.
The Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Shankar Gupta who was an ex-mayor of Bhopal and convenor of All India Council of Mayors Subhash Patel who was ex-mayor of Bereilly would be the specially invited guests in the meeting.
The deputy commissioner GS Kshatriya, who has been appointed as nodal officer for the mayors’ meeting, informed that eight of the ten mayors of the state have confirmed to participate in the meeting. The Bhilai Municipal Corporation Mayor Vidya Ratan Bhasin and Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation Mayor Kiran Dev would not be able to attend the meeting, Kshatriya informed.
The eight mayors who would attend the meeting are - Kiranmayi Nayak - Raipur, Vani Rao – Bilaspur, Naresh Dakalia – Rajnandgaon, Dr Shiv Kumar Tamer – Durg, Jogesh Lamba – Korba, Damrudhar Behra - Chirmiri, Mahendra Choutha – Raigarh and Prabodh Minj – Ambikapur.




Cong demands fourlane road from Tatibandh to Bhanpuri

The Congress has demanded from the government to construct a fourlane road at Ring Road No 2, i.e. from Tatibandh to Bhanpuri considering mounting traffic pressure on this road. The DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal and other party leaders met PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal on Friday and urged him to quickly commence fourlane project on Ring Road No 2 along with two service roads on its either side. The Congress also demanded fast completion of pending nullahs and culverts on Ring Road No 2. Notably, the road is only bypass for Bilaspur and records heavy traffic round the clock owing to which it has become the major accident prone zone. The businessmen who adopt this route too feel that the road needs fourlane to get rid of frequent traffic jams which sometime prolong to more than 5-6 hours.


Discord in Cong over candidates for Birgaon Municipal Council

The discord among the Congress leaders pertaining to selection of candidates surfaced again on Friday when they met to filter at least two names for each of the 35 wards of Birgaon Municipal Council to recommend the list to the PCC that would take the final decision on Saturday. The party’s Friday meeting was chaired by PCC working president Satyanarayan Sharma and was attended by Bhupesh Baghel, DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal and large number of workers who ardently suggested the names of their favorites. For some wards, more than 10-12 names were proposed. The PCC president Dhanendra Sahu informed that the preliminary meeting for candidate filtration for Birgaon Municipal Council was essential as the PCC would have to take decision on the list of probable for 12 other civic bodies and seven nagar panchayats.
