State equally carved niche in sports in past decade: Agrawal


Raipur district sports festival begins

Chhattisgarh state has recently completed its ten years of establishment and to make the occasion memorable, we celebrated Rajyotsav 2010 that depicted the progress of the state in every sector. Similarly, the sports sector too has taken our state to a new height in both at national and international arena. The words were expressed by School Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal after he inaugurated the Raipur district sports festival under Chhattisgarh Khel Mahotsav 2010 at sports complex Budhapara on Wednesday. There will be 34 sports in this three-day sports festival in the district.
“It is because of our state’s sports talents that the Indian Olympic Association has given us an opportunity to host the 27th edition of the national games in 2012-13,” Agrawal said.
He informed that under Chhattisgarh Khel Mahotsav 2010, the government first organised sporting events at development block level and now the district level festival has commenced.
“To connect the state’s youths with the sports, we must organise similar sporting events regularly as such attempts would produce excellent players of the nation in future,” Agrawal said.
Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak who presided over the inaugural function of the sports festival said that the state has innumerable sports talents and they only need suitable platform to hone up their skills. She said the events like Chhattisgarh Khel Mahotsav 2010 would encourage the children and it would also help the players to prepare for the upcoming national games.
The inaugural function began with the attractive march past of the players followed by cultural programmes presented by boys and girls.
On the occasion legislator Kuldeep Juneja, Raipur district Collector incharge and RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary, SP Dipanshu Kabra, Director Sports and Youth Welfare department GP Singh, Raipur Zila Panchayat president Laxmi Verma, municipal Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, leader of BJP corporators at RMC Subhash Tiwari, and others were present.




State’s BJP mayors to attend urban good governance meet

Urban Development Ministers belonging to BJP ruled states will also participate in the convention

The state’s BJP mayors will attend the two-day national convention on urban good governance to be organised by the party at Lucknow on November 19-20, 2010. Since the conference will be organised under the aegis of party’s Good Governance Cell, it is named as Nagariya Suraj-Sankalp Sammelan.
According to information, more than 150 delegates from all over the country are likely to attend the conference that will be aimed at considering all major policy issues with regards to the urban governance as well as issues like enhancing the quality of life in urban areas and greater participation of people at all levels.
The two-day national convention will be attended by the mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons of the standing committees as well as house leaders and opposition leaders belonging to the BJP.
Besides, all the Urban Development Ministers from the BJP ruled states will also be participating in this convention.
The BJP’s national president Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate this convention on November 19 while the party general secretary and former Urban Development Minister Ananth Kumar will deliver the valedictory address.
The party’s national secretary and former Mayor of Durg Municipal Corporation Saroj Pandey will deliver the keynote address during the inaugural session.
In addition, the convention will also look into the three major policies mooted by the Union government viz - urban transportation policy, urban sanitation policy and policy on hawkers. At the end of the two-day deliberations, the convention will adopt a charter of commitments.
The convention will also showcase all the good and exemplary work done by six major BJP ruled municipal corporations like Bangalore, Nagpur, Indore, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Jalandhar.
Among others, former Goa Chief Minister and convener of the party’s Governance Cell Manohar Parrikar, party general secretary Narendra Tomar, national secretaries Bhupender Yadav and Captain Abhimanyu, former Gwalior Mayor Vivek Shejwalkar, Vadodara Mayor and MP Balubhai Shukla and several other party office-bearers will be participating in this convention.
The state BJP leaders informed that it is their party that has put forward the concept of good governance in the country for the first time and wish to open doors for every state to learn about each other’s progress mantra for development of the nation as a whole.
This conference will be fourth in a row organised under the auspices of BJP’s Good Governance Cell as earlier it had conducted the meeting for the first time of chief ministers and their Cabinet ministers from party-ruled states followed by the second meeting of education ministers. The third meeting was held at Raipur on October 22, 2010 and was attended by all the Agriculture and Food & Civil Supplies Ministers belonging to the party-ruled states.


Aamir Khan to shoot film in naxal-hit Bastar

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will be seen in action in the forests of Chhattisgarh's naxal-dominated Bastar region next month in connection with the shooting of his next film. Film producer John Mathew of Sarfarosh fame, announced his decision to start shooting for the film in the region from December next. On his return from his tour of south Bastar, Mathew said he was impressed with picturesque locations, natural beauty, tribal-dominated villages, forests and places of tourist attractions there and was eager to make the film with actor Aamir Khan. Mathew has selected Dantewada district's Barsoor and Bastar's Teerathgarh, Chitrakot and Machkot forests for shooting of the proposed film.



YC stages day-long dharna

The Youth Congress (YC) Parliament Raipur on Wednesday staged a day-long dharna near Sports Complex Budha Talab with its demand to reinstallation of Rani Durgawati’s statue at airport road from where it has been removed. The president of YC Parliament Raipur Vinod Tiwari said that Rani Durgawati sacrificed her life to save Gondwana state in 1564 owing to which the Gondwana community and the tribals call her their goddess. “Even the Chief Minister Raman Singh remembered Rani Durgawati’s sacrifice while he was addressing a rally at Kawardha on June 24, 2010 but unfortunately the BJP-led state government removed her statue from the airport road,” he said. “This is the beginning of out agitation and if the Rani Durgawati’s statue would not be reinstalled on the same place, we would launch aggressive state-wide agitation in future,” Tiwari said. At dharna spot, Tiwari was accompanied by former state YC president Yogesh Tiwari, Sushil Agrawal, Indrajeet Singh, Ashish Dubey, Pappu Baghel, Sunny Agrawal, Sayed Umar, Rahul Tiwari, Rikki Judani, Soma Thakur, Banti Bagh, Deepak Jaiswal and others.



Usendi on Karnataka, Kerala tour

Faced with a serious challenge to tackle wild elephant menace in Chhattisgarh, a three-member delegation led by Forest Minister Vikram Usendi on Wednesday undertook a week-long tour to Karnataka and Kerala to study measures taken there with a view to mitigate a decade-old problem in the state. The minister is being accompanied by state’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Ram Prakash and Sarguja Range Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Setty Pannavar. Besides holding meetings with senior forest officials, wildlife experts and villagers those living in wild elephant-dominated areas of the two states, the delegation is scheduled to visit Bandipur Elephant Sanctuary and Bannerghatta National Park in Karnataka as well as Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Nagarhole National Park in Kerala. Since northern Chhattisgarh districts like Sarguja, Jashpur, Korba, Koria and Raigarh has suffered heavy human casualty and property loss including damage to houses and standing crops over the years, the state government is keen to take all possible measures, including setting up of elephant sanctuaries in the region to ease the man-elephant conflict. The decision to send a delegation to the Karnataka and Kerala was taken as the two southern states had ably managed the situation with a series of measures and awareness programme despite having a large population of wild elephants.


CM reviews international cricket match preparations

Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday took stock of the preparations of the proposed international cricket match practices to be done at the international cricket stadium based at village Parsada near capital on November 21 and 23, 2010. Singh directed the relevant officials to ensure proper arrangements like seating, security, parking, drinking water, lights, etc in the stadium. The practice matches would be played between Chhattisgarh and Canada teams. The meeting was attended by Secretary Sports and Youth Welfare Department Subrat Sahu, Director Sports and Youth Welfare department GP Singh, Energy Secretary Aman Singh, Secretary Finance RS Vishwakarma, CM’s Special Secretary Subodh Singh, Naya Raipur Development Authority CEO SS Bajaj, CM’s OSD Vikram Sisodia, RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary, SP Dipanshu Kabra, Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association president Baldev Singh Bhatia and PWD’s Engineer-in-Chief PK Janvade.
