Make environ pollution free for progeny: Swami Vedjananda

2nd day of 47th Annual Convention of Chemists 2010 and International Conference on Recent Advances in Chemistry at RSU

Raipur, December 24, 2011

An individual’s surrounding is called environment that includes living and non-living things around him. The non-living components of environment are land, water and air. The living components are germs, plants, animals and people. A change in any component of the environment can cause discomfort and affect normal life. Any unfavorable change or degeneration in the environment is known as environmental pollution. In the backdrop of fast industrialisation and large number of research works being done in every nation, every human should attempt to make his environment pollution free for the next generation. The information about the environment was given by Swami Vedjananda from Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata during analytical and environmental chemistry session on the second day of the five-day 47th Annual Convention of Chemists 2010 and International Conference on Recent Advances in Chemistry organised by Indian Chemical Society Kolkata and hosted by Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) on Friday.
“To protect the environment, we must take care of our land, water resources, forests and atmosphere. Besides, we would have to ensure a balance between these resources and living creatures, to meet our requirements,” Swami Vedjananda said.
Earlier, the invited speakers and the participants gave paid tribute to Late RK Mishra, the renowned analytical chemist of the country and former professor from RSU’s School of Studies in Chemistry. Later, Professor Mahendra Kumar Jain from United States of America (USA) informed in detail about Professor Mishra’s research works.
Another speaker in this session was Professor RC Sharma from BR Ambedkar University Agra who imparted lecture on - effects of metal ions on biological system’. The session was chaired by Professor SM Khopekar from IIT Mumbai.
In the industrial chemistry session Professor Anjali Pal from IIT Kharagpur presented papers on – ‘purification of polluted water’. The session was chaired by Professor Somnath Sanyal.
In the physical chemistry session Professor Rakesh Mahajan from Gurunanak Dev University spoke on chemical sensors. The second lecture of the session was imparted by Professor Jyotiranjan Acharya who informed in detail about harmful organic phosphates and methods to deal them. The session was chaired by Professor Pradeep Kumar Sharma from Jodhpur University.
In the organic and biochemistry session Professor AK Singh from IIT Mumbai and Professor VK Patil from IIT Guwahati delivered lectures on different subjects.
The young research scholars from different parts of the country also presented their papers during the ongoing parallel sessions. One of the young research scholars from Pt RSU Santosh Verma presented his papers during the physical chemistry session, informed the secretary of organising committee for the convention Professor Kallol Ghosh.

NSUI state prez warns of self immolation

Demands from RSU to roll back exam fee hike

Raipur, December 24, 2010

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has demanded from Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) to roll back the exam fee hike. The NSUI members led by their state president Sanjeev Shukla submitted a memorandum to the varsity vice chancellor Professor SK Pandey along with their other demands related to the exam forms and fee on Friday.
Shukla has warned the varsity administration that if the NSUI’s demands would not be fulfilled in next 24 hours, he would immolate himself either before the RSU administrative office or in front of vice chancellor’s residence.
He informed that since varsity had not sent sufficient number of examination forms to the colleges affiliated to it, the last date of form distribution should be extended to January 7, 2011. Notably, Friday (December 24, 2010) was the last date to distribute exam forms.
“Due to insufficient exam forms in the RSU affiliated colleges in other cities and remote areas, several people were selling such forms at higher rates,” Shukla said. The cost of one form is Rs 100, but in some places the students had to pay Rs 300 to obtain such forms.
Shukla informed how the Rajnandgoan’s Mohla College administration was charging Rs 200 additional for exam forms on pretext of janbhagidari fee (public participation fee). “The particular college had already taken janbhagidari fee from the students in the beginning of the academic session during admission but they were taking the fee for the second time,” said Shukla.

Cong regains momentum, eyes Sanjari-Balod seat

Quick Analysis

Raipur, December 24, 2010

The state Congress is on seventh heaven after it posted thumping victory over the BJP for the coveted seats of Bhilai Municipal Corporation mayor and Birgaon Municipal council chairperson on Friday. The exultation of the main Opposition in the state indicates how desperate it was to win both these important seats after losing the battle in the recently held Bhatgaon legislative Assembly by-election. Now, the effervescing Congress is eying the Sanjari-Balod Assembly seat so that it could spoilsport the ruling BJP’s mission 2013 (Vidhan Sabha polls) and 2014 (general elections) dreams.
