City to get 16 new sulabh toilets soon

The capital will soon get 16 new sulabh toilets. The information was given by Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak after she dedicated the newly constructed sulabh toilet near overhead water tank in Kushabhau Thakre ward (zone 2) in Daldal Sivni on Saturday morning. The 26-seater sulabh has been constructed at the cost of Rs 12.50 lakh.
“The construction works of all the 16 new sulabh toilets will begin in different wards,” said Nayak and added that the municipal corporation was committed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the city.
She said the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) aims to construct sufficient number of sulabh toilets for convenience of people.
On water crisis prevailed in Daldal Sivni Nayak said, “The drinking water problem would be permanently be solved when the RMC would complete laying of pipeline in the area along with construction of water tank.”
She further felt that the fast development of the capital would only be possible when the citizens would cooperate with the municipal corporation. “We would also have to take support of the local legislators and ministers for this purpose,” she said.
On development of wards Nayak said that the works would commence once the Urban Administration and Development Department give approval to spend Rs 10 lakh in each ward.
To develop 26 villages which were included in RMC a couple of years back Nayak said, “We would need at least Rs 20-25 crore to bring significant changes in these villages for which the state government must make provision in its budget.”
On the occasion, the municipal Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava assured that the development of the capital would be done through joint efforts without involving party politics.
The public dedication programme was attended by president of municipal’s Public Works department Anwar Hussein, zone 2 president Neetu Tiwari, president of RMC’s Tow Planning and Building Permission Department Jasbeer Singh Dhillon, local corporator Madho Prasad Sahu, civic officials and the residents.


RMC interschool essay, slogan competition on Nov 30

On city sanitation arrangements

The municipal corporation will organise interschool essay and slogan competitions at Naveen Saraswati Girls Higher Secondary School from 1 pm on November 30, 2010. The students from class IXth to XIIth can take part in both the competitions. The subject of the essay competition would be - ‘role and contribution of students in city sanitation arrangements and public participation’ while topic for slogan would be – ‘cleanliness in city’.
The RMC will display the selected slogans of the students in all the wards through banners and murals.
About essay and slogan competitions the RMC’s Education Officer Kiranmayi Tiwari informed that each school can send the names of maximum tem participants. The students would have to take the required stationeries along with them. The best essay and slogan would be adjudged by the seven-member panel of judges and the decision would be final. The panel would be chaired by Kiranmayi Tiwari while the remaining six members would be experts in different subjects.
There will be first, second and third prizes in both the competitions. The winner will receive Rs 3100 cash prize, runner-up - Rs 2100 and second runner-up- Rs 1100. Besides, the other participants would receive consolation prizes along with citation.
The maximum word and time limit for essay competition would be 300 words and 90 minutes. Similarly, 30 minutes will be given for slogans making.
The essay competition will also be organised in the middle schools of the municipal corporation for which directives have been issued by civic administration. The competition will be at school level in which the students would have to write essay on – ‘how should be arrangements of education, traffic and sanitation in your dream city’. The principals and teachers would select the three best essays of their respective schools and would send it to the panel of judges at Naveen Saraswati Girls Higher Secondary School by November 30. There, the panel would announce the first three winners of the city.
Notably, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak had convened a meeting of all the schools principals of the municipal corporation recently in which she had urged all the principals to link the school students to create awareness among the citizens about sanitation under the RMC’s mission clean campaign.
She had also urged the principals to organise debate, essay writing and other competition in schools pertaining to sanitation so students could thoroughly understand the importance of hygienic atmosphere in the ambience and convey it to the common mass.
Nayak said the effective implantation of the drive would only be possible when the people would comprehend its significance and extend their cooperation to the municipal corporation. For this, she terms school students as the best medium through which public awareness about cleanliness could be created in the capital.


Gandhi-Nehru Udyan to be lit up by solar lights from today

The Urban Administration and Development Minister Rajesh Munat will dedicate the new solar system of lightening in the Gandhi-Nehru Udyan to the public at 6 pm on Sunday. For this, the RMC has established a solar power plant with 10 kilowatt capacity at the cost of Rs 25 lakh. The plant has been set up with the help of Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA). The RMC has installed hundred CFL bulbs in the garden. Notably, the solar power plant has been established under the government aim to use non-conventional energy sources for daily purpose t conserve traditional energy. The pubic dedication programme will be chaired by Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak while the other guests would be municipal Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava, MiC member and president of Electricity, Fire Fighting and Engineering Department Rakesh Dhotre and Civil Lines corporator Ashok Manwani.


Water supply in Ganj, Gudhiyari normalises

The water supply in Ganj and Gudhiyari areas normalised on Saturday evening and the RMC supplied water to the residents through the overhead tanks located there. Notably, the water supply in both the areas was disrupted from November 26 due to repairing of pipeline from filter to Gudhiyari. The repairing work was completed at Saturday noon and the municipal started supplying water from the evening onwards. The residents of Ganj and Gudhiyari faced problem due to no water supply and in spite of tanker water supplied by the RMC.



Shrivastava reviews development works

The municipal Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava who is also an ex-officio president of zone 3 on Saturday reviewed the development works of the wards of his zone. He instructed deputy commissioner GS Kshatriya to complete the pending works and commence new ones in the wards through general fund. Notably, Kshatriya has recently been given additional charge of zone 3 commissioner. Besides, he asked Kshatriya to improve the basic facilities like drinking water, road and street light in the wards. He further instructed that the Revenue squad should start recovering property tax of this financial year from the citizens and must give 6.25 percent waiver to those who would pay their taxes by November 30, 2010.
