Now, Subhash stadium open for non-sporting events
RMC lifts ban from the stadium considering space crunch in city
Raipur, October 27, 2010
Finally, the political parties and a host of different organisations have a sigh of relief as the municipal corporation has lifted ban from Netaji Subhash stadium and has decided to give it for non-sporting programmes considering space crunch in the capital. Notably, following the Supreme Court directives that the sports grounds should be given only for sporting events and not for other programmes, the RMC had strictly banned conduction of non-sporting programmes in the grounds of schools and colleges relaxing the conditions during summer and winter vacations of the students.
Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak informed that the city lacked adequate number of grounds owing to which the non-sporting programmes too were being organised in the school and college grounds. “We posed tough stand only after apex court’s orders, but then decided to lift ban from Subhash stadium so that political bodies as well as other organisations could organise their programmes in the city,” she said.
The Subhash stadium has currently been booked by the Bharatiya Janata Yuwa Morcha (BJYM) that will organise a divisional-level meeting of its workers in the stadium on October 29, 2010. According to information, the BJYM has obtained permission from the RMC to organise its programme in the stadium on the specific date.
Recently, Nayak had bluntly refused to allow Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) to organise its path sanchalan programme on the occasion of Dussehra at Madhav Rao Sapre School ground on October 17, 2010. She had denied the permission quoting SC directives and pointing that no formal application had been sought by the sangh members regarding their programme in the school ground.
Later, one of the senior members of the Sangh - Jauhari Lal Sharma met Nayak and gave her an application urging to provide the ground. Nayak forwarded the letter to Choudhary who after considering that programme date would be Sunday, a holiday for students, gave the permission.

Cong deceiving farmers, not BJP: Sharma
Raipur, October 27, 2010
Rejecting all the charges of PCC president Dhanendra Sahu against the state government over paddy bonus, the BJP Kisan Morcha has alleged that his party had always attempted to give respite to the farmers, but the Congress-led Union government continued to deceive them.
The Morcha’s state president Sandeep Sharma said that state government’s announcement to disburse Rs 270 paddy bonus was never a party of its election strategy, but was a solution to save the farmers of Chhattisgarh from the aftereffects of Centre’s wrong policies.
“The production cost of paddy was consistently rising in 2007-08 and had touched Rs 800 per quintal while the Centre had declared to disburse Rs 780 as minimum support price (MSP) to the farmers. In this case, if the state government would not have announced Rs 270 bonus, a majority of paddy producers would have incurred heavy loss,” he said adding that still instead of appreciating initiatives of the Raman Singh government Sahu termed it as BJP’s poll ploy.
“The farmers’ woes would only be solved when they would get sufficient paddy MSP, but the state Congress instead of urging the Centre to further hike the MSP is trying to divert public attention towards bonus which is only a temporary solution,” he added.
Sharma said the state government had always taken farmer-oriented decisions owing to which the Chhattisgarh’s GDP rate had surpassed all the other states across the nation.
Organisers insulted Gov while felicitating Salman: Cong
During the inaugural ceremony of Rajyotsav-2010
Raipur, October 27, 2010
The organisers insulted Governor Shekhar Dutt while felicitating Bollywood superstar Salman Khan during the inaugural ceremony of Rajyotsav 2010. The occasion was embarrassing even for the state government when the names of its own Chief Minister Raman Singh and two other Chief Ministers from Uttarakhand and Jharkhand along with the Governor were announced to felicitate Salman and they had to wait for the cine star. The PCC president Dhanendra Sahu on Wednesday leveled these allegations against the organisers and the state government holding them responsible for degrading the state’s dignity.
Sahu said Salman being an invited guest was not aware of the protocol and formalities, but even the organisers did not briefed him in advance that he should at least mention the names of the Governor and the three CMs when he was felicitated. Sahu sought clarification from the government pertaining to the norm and category it considered while selecting Salman’s name for felicitation.
Sahu further objected over the Bollywood’s item song that was played during the inaugural ceremony. “Such obscene songs are against our culture. Instead, some patriotic or cultural song should have been played,” he said.
Sahu also condemned the BJP-led state government for taking all credit for formation of Chhattisgarh. “The ruling Congress of the undivided Madhya Pradesh played equal role Chhattisgarh’s establishment while the AICC president Sonia Gandhi who was leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha at that time also supported the bill tabled in the Parliament for new states,” he said.
Sahu charged that the Rajyotsav had become the easy route of corruption for the government and it was trying to mislead people of the state by showing manipulated figures of its development.
“Ironically, on one side, the naxals are killing the innocent people, unemployment has become a major problem, job vacancies in industries are only for outsiders, farmers are compelled to sell their crops at cheap rates, none of the government’s schemes is reaching to the end beneficiary and many more other problems are being deliberately ignored, still the government is celebrating Rajyotsav,” Sahu regretted.
