PNGRB chairman gives presentation on project to CM

The 1500 km gas pipeline project from Surat (Gujarat) to Paradip (Orrisa) will also link Chhattisgarh. Informing about the project, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) chairman Lalit Mansingh gave its detailed presentation to Chief Minister Raman Singh at Mantralaya on Tuesday morning.
Bids have been invited for the Rs 6000 crore pipeline project which is targeted to be completed by 2014, Mansingh informed. In Chhattisgarh, the pipeline would be laid in over 150 km area including Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raipur and Mahasamund districts, he added. Mansingh requested from the CM to nominate one nodal officer representing Chhattisgarh government in the project.
Mansingh further informed that besides providing the gas to the industrial sector, it would also be available for vehicles running on CNG kits as well as for domestic purpose. The domestic gas consumers of all the cities through which this pipeline would be laid would be connected. Presently, domestic gas consumers of 22 major cities of the country are getting gas through similar gas pipelines, Mansingh said.
The CM suggested that considering the extensive industrial development of the state and emergence of Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba and Janjgir-Champa as potential districts for the sector, the branches of the gas pipeline should also be connected to such regions.
Mansingh also sought skilled manpower from CM to accomplish the task in Chhattisgarh. He said the technically skilled workers like welders, plumbers, fitters, etc would be largely required for the project. The CM assured Mansingh sufficient manpower would be provided for the project. “We are already operating Skill Development Mission under which hundreds of youths, especially from tribal belts are being trained on different streams. Besides, the Industrial Training Centres (ITIs) are also producing skilled youths,” the CM said.
On the occasion, Chief Secretary P Joy Oommen, CM’s Principal Secretary N Baijendra Kumar, PNGRB member BL Negi and other senior officials were also present.
PYKKA key in state’s sports development: Agrawal

The Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) has played key role in development of sporting activities in the state. It is PYKKA that created congenial sports environment in the rural areas and provided better facilities to the emerging talented players and honing their skills. School Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal uttered these words during the inaugural session of day-long state-level workshop organised on PYKKA under the joint aegis of Sports and Youth Welfare Department and School Education Department at New Circuit House on Tuesday.
“The overall development of children is only possible when we would attempt for their physical, mental and intellectual growth simultaneously. For this, we would have to encourage our children to participate in sporting events because sports form radical part of an individual’s personality development,” said Agrawal.
“Nowadays, children prefer to watch television instead of going to playground. Hence, we would have to create awareness in them about sports,” he added.
Announcing to provide Rs two lakh each to the development blocks of the state for development of sports in rural belts, Agrawal said the funds should be utilised in leveling grounds for volleyball, football and badminton and to prepare tracks for athletics.
Presiding over the programme, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Lata Usendi felt that coordination between Sports, School Education and Tribal Development departments must for taking the state to new heights in the sports world. “The other departments as well as private agencies can also come forward and help the government in creating better sporting atmosphere for the players in the state,” she said.
Usendi said in spite of limited resources, several talented players from the urban and rural areas had emerged across the state. “We are committed to enhance resources for sports in the state,” she assured.
Notably, the state government launched Centrally-sponsored PYKKA last year and it would be fully implemented in the entire rural Chhattisgarh in ten years. Every year, PYKKA would be implemented in at least 10 percent of the gram panchayats.
Besides PYKKA, the other subjects discussed in the workshop were state-level mini Olympic that would be held from November 10-20 and sports talent discovery scheme.
Reconstruction of roads

The government has completed reconstruction and upgradation of 777 kilometers long 15 roads of the state as against its work-plan to accomplish the task of 21 important roads with 1249 kilometers length under Chhattisgarh State Road Development Project (CSRDP) with the help of Asian Development Bank. Over 57,000 construction works completed in state

The state government has completed over 57,000 construction works against 66,516 approved works under Backward Area Grant Fund (BAGF) programme since financial year 2006-07. The government has accomplished these tasks spending about Rs 588.56 crore. The state is eligible to receive Rs 235 crore every years from BAGF. Under the programme, 3929 construction works were approved for urban areas of which 2414 have been completed. The construction works were done under education, health, energy, nutrition, livelihood and infrastructure sectors. The officials of Panchayat and Rural Development Department informed that the BAGF programme has been implemented in all the districts of the state except Raipur, Durg and Janjgir-Champa.
Uncontrolled bull caught

The municipal corporation on Tuesday caught an uncontrolled bull from Lakhe Nagar that had injured more than fifteen people. However, the civic officials came into action only after they received several complaints regarding the bull from the residents in past couple of days. The residents informed that the bull went uncontrolled after a stray dog bite it.
Dalei reviews civic body polls & by-polls preparations

State Election Commissioner PC Dalei reviewed the preparations of civic body elections and by-elections on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Deputy District Returning Officers (DDRO) of ten districts where civic body elections and by-elections would be conducted.
Dalei directed the officials to ensure necessary arrangements for elections done in their respective areas at the earliest and returning and assistant returning officers should be appointed. He further gave significant instructions on reservation, arrangements of ballot boxes, estimation and voting, availability of essential resources during counting, etc.
Dalei also took information from the officials regarding polling teams, to and fro arrangement of conveyance for them during polling, arrangement of papers to publish ballot papers, arrangement of strong room, polling material distribution centres and details of polling spots. He instructed the officials to ensure proper security arrangements in naxal-affected areas.
Ten districts where civic body polls will be organised are - Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Bijapur, Kabirdham, Jagdalpur, Sarguja, Kanker, Dantewada and Koria.
The polls in Raipur district will be conducted in - Municipal Council Birgaon. In Durg district, the elections will be held in – Bhilai Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council Bhilai-Charoda, Municipal Council Jamul, Nagar Panchayat Maro, Nagar Panchayat Chikhla Kasa and Nagar Panchayat Dalli Rajhara.
Similarly, the polls in Rajnandgaon district will be organised in Municipal Council Khairagarh and in Bijapur district – Nagar Panchayat Bhairamgarh, Nagar Panchayat Bhopalpatnam and Nagar Panchayat Bijapur.
In other districts, polls will be held in – Kabirdham – Nagar Panchayat Pandaria, Jagdalpur – Nagar Panchayat Vishrampuri and Nagar Panchayat Bastar, Sarguja – Nagar Panchayat Premnagar, Kanker – Nagar Panchayat Narharpur, Dantewada – Nagar Panchayat Konta and in Koria district – Municipal Council Shivpur Charcha and Municipal Council Baikunthpur.
The elections would be held in all the areas from 8 am to 5 pm except naxal-hit regions were voting time would be from 8 am to 4 pm.
