Planning Commission made agri sector organised: Sen

The agriculture sector in the country was completely dependent on monsoon, but when the Planning Commission was set up and when farmer get better irrigation facilities, there was a steep fall in drought-like conditions and marked rise in agricultural productions. The words were expressed by Prof RK Sen, former chairman, Indian Economic Council (IEC) Kolkata during the inauguration ceremony of two-day national-level symposium oragnised under the aegis of Chhattisgarh Economic Council (CEC) here at Durga College on Thursday. The subject of the symposium was – rural development in Chhattisgarh.
In his address, Sen also shed light on country’s progress in several fields like rural development, health, education, etc. 
Pt Ravishankar Shukla University’s (RSU) Vice Chancellor Prof SK Pandey, who chaired the programme also expressed his satisfaction over improvement in agriculture sector. However, he was upset with the existing living conditions in the rural areas and felt more efforts needed be made for betterment of villagers.
The principal of Durga College Prof SS Khanuja said that the 21st century would be remembered not because of wars and crimes, but for economic development and prosperity. He appreciated the role played by the villagers in bringing the socio-economic and political change in rural areas after amendment in the Constitution of India in 1993.
Dr RK Bramhe informed that the five-year-old CEC had been publishing its journal regularly and had carried research papers of about 40 students.
