Cong playing politics over naxalism: Yadav

Raipur, April 28, 2010

The BJP’s Lok Sabha member from Rajnandgaon Madhusudan Yadav has said that the Congress should stop playing blamegame on naxal issue. “The Congress is playing politics on naxalism and is not taking the problem seriously,” Yadav said.
“The Congress does not want action against the naxals owing to which it is not supporting the government,” he alleged. Yadav also took a dig at Congress Parliamentarian from Korba Charan Das Mahant for his comments on senior BJP leader and Bastar MP Baliram Kashyap and expressed his concern that the Opposition was trying to divide the nation on naxal issue.
Yadav said the Congress should clarify its stand on the most burning problem of the country that had recently claimed lives of 76 jawans in Chintalnar (Dantewada) and its senior leaders like Vidya Charan Shukla and Ajit Jogi including PCC president Dhanendra Sahu must answer to the people about the reasons for their protest against the government’s anti-naxal campaign.

Govt postpones zone prez polls

Cong sniffs conspiracy against Mayor

Raipur, April 28, 2010

State government has suddenly postponed the election of zone presidents at RMC that was scheduled to be held on Thursday for indefinite period. The decision was taken in the last minute as the municipal Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary received a letter in this regard from the Urban Administration and Development Ministry on Wednesday that said the elections of zone presidents should be postponed as the department was consulting from Ministry of Legal Affairs pertaining to the poll procedures.
The letter further said that the next date for the elections should only be decided after the advice given by the Ministry of Legal Affairs. Choudhary has forwarded copies of this letter to both Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava.
Nayak alleged that the polls had been deliberately postponed and Choudhary was responsible for it. “The orders of postponement have not been issued by the government but by the RMC Commissioner and I am amazed that he is trying to give me instructions without having rights to do so,” Nayak said.
Nayak informed that the leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari had raised his objections on polls of zone presidents and had given a letter in this regard to Choudhary who in turn had forwarded it to the Urban Administration and Development Ministry. “But the department on Wednesday only informed Choudhary that it is taking legal consultation and did not mention about postponement,” she alleged.
Surprised by the decision, the PCC alleged that the BJP-led state government was merely creating confusion by postponing the polls. PCC president Dhanendra Sahu alleged that the government’s move was an evident indicator that it was conspiring against the Mayor who belonged to Congress.
“This shows government’s capriciousness. It is beyond comprehension that the Urban Administration and Development Ministry is taking legal advice for zone president polls when such procedures have always been carried out according to the rules. Now, the government must clarify the reasons that prompted it to suddenly postpone the poll process,” said Sahu.
He further said that the BJP had not yet come out of its stupor after it lost three most important municipal corporation seats to Congress in Raipur, Bilaspur and Rajnandgaon during the recently held civic body elections. When contacted to know her opinion about the postponement, the Mayor was not available over phone.

Life story of great leaders to be inscribed on stone

Raipur, April 28, 2010

The RMC will inscribe the life story of the martyrs and great leaders beside their statues. The announcement was done by Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak after she garlanded the statue of freedom fighter late Madhusudan Das during a tribute programme organised by the municipal’s Cultural department on the occasion of his birth anniversary near Mahila police station Chowk at 10 am on Wednesday.
Nayak said the RMC would also publish the biographies of the martyrs and great leaders of the state who had dedicated their life to the country. She hoped that the younger generation would not only get inspiration from these biographies but they would also adopt the ideals and path shown by the great leaders. The inscription and publication works will be carried out by the Cultural department, she added.
She further said that the RMC aimed to make the capital free from slums for which it was constructing 27,976 houses for poor under Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme that had been launched by the Union government’s massive city modernisation scheme through Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Similarly, the municipal will construct one lakh houses for poor under Rajiv Gandhi Ashraya Yojana (RGAY), she said.
RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava said Das was not only pride of Utkal fraternity but of all the communities and appealed to the people to take inspiration from his life.
On the occasion, representatives of Utkal Gaurav Committee Mukti Nayak and Bhagwanu Nayak, Daniram Nayak from Utkal Vikas Manch, Congress MLA Kuldeep Juneja, leader of BJP corporators Subhash Tiwari, DCC President Inderchand Dhariwal, Congress leaders Gajraj Pagaria, Iqbal Ahmed Rizvi, Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members Govind Mishra, Rakesh Dhotre, Amit Das, Lekhraj Sonkar, Lakhwant Singh Gil, Jaggu Singh Thakur, corporators Anjali Radheshyam Vibhar, Sunil Bandre, Mahadev Nayak, etc along with local residents were also present.
