Gives them four-day ultimatum to improve the situation

The ongoing fourlane project at Ring Road No 1 still lacks proper drainage facility owing to which the colonies in the vicinity of the road are once again likely to be listed among the flood-prone areas in the rainy season. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak inspected the Ring Road area on Friday and expressed her displeasure over the slow pace of drainage works under the fourlane project.
She rebuked the AGM of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Sunil Asthani and the AGM of DS Construction (the implementing agency of the project) Madanlal for ignoring the people’s problems during rains in the absence of no drainage facility on the road. She gave four-day ultimatum to the officials to improve the situation in the area and expedite the pace of drainage works and said she would again inspect the road from Bajaj Colony to Tatibandh along with them after the given timeframe.
She said it was unfortunate that the officials of NHAI as well as construction agency had always ignored the complaints of the people pertaining to the inconvenience they were facing due to ongoing fourlane project. She said the entire stretch of the road had become accident-prone owing to recklessness of the officials who had occupied haphazardly dumped the construction materials everywhere.
She pointed out that the indifference of the relevant officials took three lives of the innocent people at Ring Road in the recent past while several motorists receive grave injuries in mishaps.
She further directed the officials to quickly ensure proper drainage system and cleanliness at the Ring Road near Bajaj colony where a bridge is being constructed. Similarly, she was got infuriated at the sight of waterlogging in Dharam Nagar. She held the NHAI responsible for waterlogging in the locality and said the problem could aggravate during rains if the concerned agency would not take proactive measures like proper drainage on the Ring Road.

Raipur, June 04, 2010

The businessmen around the old Ganj area kept their shops closed on Friday in protest of municipal and the Raipur Development Authority’s (RDA) notices to vacate the area in 48 hours. The RMC and RDA want to construct a multi-storeyed commercial complex in about 27 acres land in old Ganj area.
The businessmen have demanded that unless the RMC and RDA rehabilitate them elsewhere and provide them compensation package, they would not vacate their shops. They cautioned that they would agitate aggressively in coming days in favour of their demands if the RMC and RDA would attempt to oust them from their shops forcibly. According to information, the businessmen near old Ganj towards Station road, Gurunanak chowk, Sanjay Gandhi chowk and Rathore chowk are apprehensive that their establishments would be affected owing to the ambitious commercial complex project of the municipal and the RDA.
In this connection, the businessmen had also met RDA’s CEO Amit Kataria who had assured them that the project would only commence when they would be rehabilitated in some other place.
However, in spite of Kataria’s assurances, notices were served to 44 businessmen from Telghani Naka chowk to Rathore chowk. The infuriated businessmen met PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal and Urban Administration and Development Minister Rajesh Munat on Thursday night and sought their support.
They also met municipal Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary who informed them that the notices were served by mistake.
