LSP demands from Govt, RMC
Raipur, June 23, 2010
The Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) has demanded from the state government and RMC to remove encroachments from Sadar Bazar and Ramsagar Para where road traffic cripples frequently. ‘It is unfortunate that neither the government nor the RMC have so far dared to the take action against the illegal occupants at Sadar Bazar and Ramsagar Para areas because of their link with the influential people,” said state president of Students Union of LSP Imran Pasha.
Pasha alleged that the government and the RMC were promoting mall culture in the capital owing to which the small businessmen were struggling for their survival.
“Why always the street hawkers and small businessmen are being victimised by the government and the civic municipal corporation on the name of road widening, beautification works and anti-encroachment drives and why the big fishes in the market are being spared,” asked Pasha adding that the relevant authorities should pose impartial attitude in making the capital organised.
He said the before displacing any businessman or small vendor from his existing place like the action taken against those at Shastri Bazar, Santoshi Nagar and other parts of the capital, the RMC should formulate proper strategy to rehabilitate and compensate the affected ones by sending proposal to the government.
He further suggested that if the government can plan to shift the wholesale markets like Gudhiyari to the outskirts of the city then the civic authorities should also provide sufficient space to the jewelers away from the capital to ensure smooth traffic.
The LSP workers also visited some of the wards in the city to see the sanitary conditions, but were upset with the encroachments and apathy of civic authorities. “We were really amazed when we saw that the encroachers had illegally raised shops in the garden at Housing Board Colony near Hirapur and its remaining space is being used to dump cattle excreta,” said Pasha. He informed that the local residents had complained about this to the Zone Commissioner and top civic authorities regarding encroachments in the garden, but action had been taken against the guilty people by far.
He further pointed out that capital needed proper cleanliness as the water-borne diseases like diarrhoea and jaundice outbreak especially in the slum and low-lying areas.
